AARON MARSHALL EARNS PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR

Feb. 16: Aaron Marshall earned Liberty League forward of the week honors for the fourth time this season for his efforts against Hobart and Hamilton. He is sharing this award with Russ Vitallo of Clarkson.

Marshall scored 37 points over the weekend, including 24 against conference leader Hobart. Against Hobart, Marshall went 11-22 from the floor, grabbed 7 boards, and added 4 assists.

 

SAINTS FALL TO #1 HOBART, 96-83

Feb. 12: The St. Lawrence men's basketball team lost to Hobart College today in a Liberty League match-up today, 96-83, dropping the Saints to 6-17 on the year, 4-8 in conference. The win improves Hobart's record to 13-8 overall, and 8-3 in the Liberty League. The Statesmen are currently in first place in the conference.

The Saints held their own in the first half, only trailing by 5 with 20 minutes left to play. The score going in to the locker room was 42-47 Hobart. The Statesmen pulled away in the second half, finishing the game with a 13 point margin over the visiting team.

On the night, Aaron Marshall led Saint scorers with 24 points. He grabbed 7 rebounds, added 4 assists, and 3 steals. Keith Sullivan scored 16 points, shooting 6-14 from the floor and 3-4 from the stripe. Freshman Shane Connolly hit 3 three pointers and made all 6 of his free throws for 15 points. Freshman Tyler Shaver scored 12 points, and added 9 boards.

For Hobart, Joe Virgilio led all scorers with 27 points, 21 of which came from three point range. He also added 3 steals. Colby Feane scored 16 points in the effort, and had an impressive 8 assists.

The Saints shot over 47% from the floor, and almost 39% from behind the arc in the loss. Hobart shot almost 56% from the floor, and more than 56% from three point range.

The Saints will play Union next Friday on the road at 8:00 pm.

SAINTS LOSE TO HAMILTON, 91-60

Feb. 11: The St. Lawrence men's basketball team lost an away conference game to Hamilton tonight, 91-60. With the loss, the Saints fall to 6-16 overall, 4-8 in the Liberty League. Hamilton improves to 12-9 overall, 7-4 in conference.

St. Lawrence never led in the contest, falling behind by as many as 15 in the first half. At the half, the score was 45-30 in favor of Hamilton. The second half was destined to be all Hamilton as well, with the Saints falling behind by as many as 32 points.

For the game, St. Lawrence shot over 40% from the field, and just over 47% from behind the arc. Hamilton shot 53% from the floor, and just under 47% from three point land.

For SLU, Aaron Marshall scored 13 points and added 5 boards. Senior guard Keith Sullivan scored 9 points, including 2 three pointers. Freshman Sebastian Kurtz had a team high 7 rebounds, and scored 5 points.

Hamilton had 5 players scoring in double digits in the win. Mike Evans had a game high 18 points, and made 6-10 from behind the arc. Tsakani Ngobeni scored 11 points and grabbed 10 boards.

The Saints will play Hobart tomorrow on the road at 4:00 pm.

SAINTS PULL OFF NAIL BITER OVER CLARKSON IN OVERTIME, 69-67

Feb. 8: Matt Blue (left) made a lay-up over two Clarkson defenders to clinch the overtime win for the Saints tonight at Burkman Gymnasium. Pat Delmonico hit 2 three pointers in overtime to give Blue the chance to win it.

St. Lawrence rallied back from 10 points down with 3:46 to play to tie the game in regulation. Tyler Wright hit two clutch shots within 40 seconds of each other, and got fouled both times. He made the first chance at a three point play, but missed the second. Aaron Marshall grabbed the offensive rebound off of Wright’s second free throw miss and laid it in for the score to make the score 51-54 Clarkson with 2:21 remaining.

Delmonico hit a three with under a minute to play to make the score 56-57 Clarkson. Then, with 6 seconds left and the Saints trailing by 3, Blue passed to Keith Sullivan at the top of the arc. Sullivan’s shot hit the front rim, then the backboard, and fell into the net for the tie at 61-61.

The first period was an indication of how close this game would inevitably be. Neither team went up by more than 4 points, and the score changed hands 4 times. At the half, the score was 24-22 in favor of Clarkson. Russ Vitallo had scored 9 points and added 7 boards. He would finish the night with 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 assists.

For SLU, Delmonico finished with a team high 17 points, including 4 three-pointers. Marshall scored 14 points, and grabbed 13 rebounds. Freshman Mike Finn scored 10 points, and added 4 boards.

The win gives the Saints an overall record of 6-15, 4-6 in the Liberty League. The loss drops Clarkson to 7-14 overall, 3-7 in conference.

The Saints will face Hamilton on Friday night at 8:00 pm. They will then play Hobart on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm. Both games are away.
