PESONY NAMED A FINALIST FOR 2008

LOWE'S SENIOR CLASS AWARD

Feb. 14: St. Lawrence University men’s hockey captain Justin Pesony is one of ten finalists for the 2008 Lowe’s Senior Class Award which will be presented at the Frozen Four in April.

 

The finalists were chosen from a field of 20 based on personal qualities which define a student-athlete. The four primary areas of criteria include classroom, community, character and competition.

 

Pesony, one of only three goaltenders in program history to wear the “C” as a Saint captain, is one of the top male students in the class of 2008 academically. A consistent Dean’s List Student throughout his career, he will be a three-time ECAC Hockey All Academic selection.

 

He was named the co-winner of the Jinx Doyle Award for leadership and character as a junior, the first underclassman to receive that award. He was also the Brian McFarlane Scholar-Athlete Award winner and the Terry Slater Perseverance Award winner as a junior.

 

While his on-ice action this season has been limited due to an ankle injury, he has a 1-1-1 record thus far this season with a 2.28 goals against average and a .915 save percentage. He has a career goals against average of 2.96 in 54 games and a career record of 25-19-4.

 

Other finalists for the award include Mark Dekanich (Colgate), Topher Scott (Cornell) and Landis Stankevich (Princeton) from ECAC Hockey, Bruce Hollweg of Army, Peter Mannino of Denver, Marty Mjelleli of St. Cloud State, Kevin Porter of Michigan, Frank Schiavone of Air Force and Mark Van Guilder of Notre Dame.

 

Fan balloting, available on the award’s website at www.seniorclassaward.com, will be combined with voting by coaches, media and sponsors to determine the winner of the award.
