DAVIS, SAINTS WIN OSWEGO INVITATIONAL

April 27: Senior Max Davis was medalist and three Saint players finished in the top five as the St. Lawrence men’s golf team closed its 2008 season with a win in the Oswego State Laker Spring Golf Invitational on Sunday.

 

Saturday play in the tournament was shortened to nine holes after weather interrupted play in round one and Davis was one of three players to shot 37, two strokes off the first-day lead. The Saint senior came back with a three-over par 74 on Sunday to finish with a total of 111 and a three stroke lead on a trio of players who tied for second.

 

Wes Ballantyne, who shot 37 on Saturday and came back with a 77 on Sunday was one of the three to tie for second while LB Haney shot 36 on Saturday and 80 on Sunday to finish with a 116 total and a tie for fifth.

Pete Herriman, playing in his first official tournament of the spring, was the fourth Saint scorer with rounds of 41 and 80 for a 121 total and a tie for eighth while Ben VonReyn shot 38 on Saturday and 85 on Sunday and finished tied for 13 th with a 123 total.

 

The Saint team finished with a total score of 459, 12 strokes better than Oswego. RPI was third in the six-team field.

 

SAINTS FOURTH AT PALAMOUNTAIN INVITATIONAL

April 14: St. Lawrence University’s men’s golf team finished fourth in the Palamountain Invitational hosted by Skidmore College at the Saratoga National and McGregor Links courses in Saratoga.

 

Host Skidmore had the top three scorers in the tournament and won with a team score of 600 for the two-day event. Hamilton was second at 632, Williams third at 639, the Saints fourth at 643 with Middlebury fifth one stroke back. A total of 11 teams played in the tournament.

 

Max Davis led the Saints with rounds of 79 and 77 for a 155 total, good for a tie for seventh. Chris Mudge shot 79 and 82 for a 161 total and was tied for 21 st while Ben Von Reyn shot 78 and 84 and was tied for 24 th. LB Haney shot rounds of 85 and 81 and tied for 37 th while Wes Ballantyne bounced back from an opening round 90 with an 83 on Monday and finished tied for 50 th.

 

 

SAINTS SECOND IN HAMILTON SPRING INVITATIONAL

Apr. 8: Chris Mudge and Ben Von Reyn shot rounds of 77 on the 6,563 yard, par 72 Skenandoa Club course as the Saint men’s golf team opened its spring season with a second place finish in the 11-team Hamilton Spring Invitational.

 

Host Hamilton won the event with a team score of 309 while the Saints carded 311 and Keystone College was third at 313.

 

Wes Ballantyne was tied for 12 th with a score of 78 and Max Davis shot 79 to give the Saints four golfers under 80 in the tournament and complete SLU’s team scoring. L.B. Haney was the fifth player for the Saints and shot 87.

The Saints are scheduled to play at the Skidmore Invitational Monday and Tuesday April 14-15.
