FIFTH AT WILLIAMS; SKIDMORE SNOWED OUT April 22: John
Pezdek shot 36-39 for a 75 total to lead the Saint men's golf team to a fifth
place finish at the Spring Challenge at Williams College's Taconic Golf Course
on Sunday. A tournament at Skidmore scheduled for Monday was
snowed out and the women's golf tournament at Delhi Saturday was cancelled at
the last minute. The Saint men finished with a 316 total at
Williams and trailed Amherst, Williams, Middlebury and Hamilton in the 13-team
field. Pete Wilson shot 39-40 for a 79 and Randy Todd shot 38-42 for 80 for the
Saints. Complete results were not provided by Williams. The
Saint men will return to Williams for the District Shootout Saturday and Sunday
while the Saint women will play in the Northeast Championships at Amherst this

WINS WOMEN'S SENIOR TOUR QUALIFIER April 19: St. Lawrence
University men's and women's golf coach Mary Lawrence finished first at the first-ever
Women's Senior Golf Tour Q-School in Daytona Beach, FL and is one of five players
advancing from the qualifying tournament to play on the WSGT this season. A
total of 31 golfers competed for the five exempt spots at the LPGA International
Course in Daytona and Lawrence led the field with a 284 total for her four rounds
of competition on the 5,812 yard par 71 course.
Lawrence opened
competition with back-to-back rounds of 72 and was tied for third after three
rounds, shooting a two-under 69 on Thursday. One of three players to shoot an
even par 71 in Friday's round, Lawrence finished atop the leader board, winning
a tie-breaker on a scorecard comparison with Kay Kennedy and earned her WSGT card.
The Women's Senior Tour open to LPGA Tournament Division or
LPGA Teaching or Club Professional Division members 44 or older, features many
of the top familiar names in women's golf including Patty Sheehan, Amy Alcott,
Hollis Stacey, Jan Stephenson and Joanne Carner. Stacey leads the career money
list on the tour which will enter its third season of competition this summer.
The WSGT opens with the Fidelity Investments Classic in Plymouth,
MA, May 16-19 and includes the Hyvee Classic in Johnston, IA June 13-16 and the
Copps Great Lakes Classic in Green Bay, WI, August 7-11. Lawrence,
a Canton native, returned to her home town to coach the St. Lawrence men's and
women's golf teams when St. Lawrence reinstituted men's golf and added women's
golf as collegiate teams in 1999. She also set up and runs St. Lawrence's Indoor
Golf Training Center during the winter months. An All America and member of two
NCAA championship teams at the University of Miami, she played on the LPGA tour
from 1978-83 and has played in nine US Opens and the British Open. Daytona

FINISHES THIRD AT HARTFORD TOURNAMENT April 15:
St. Lawrence University's Kristen Monsell followed an opening round 79 on the
par 73 Wampanoag Country Club course at West Hartford, CT. with and 85 on Monday
and finished third as an individual in a 71-player field at the Wellesley Inn
Hartford Invitational. Monsell was one of only two golfers
in the field to break 80, following up a 41 on the front nine with a 38 on the
inward loop in Sunday's round. Kristy Finlayson of Hartford shot 76-77 to win
medalist honors. The Saints finished 13th as a team and second
among Division III teams after the opening round. Amherst won the tournament title. Patty
Bresnahan shot 99 and came back with a 93 on Monday and was tied for 39th overall
while Katri Natti and Bridget Everly complete the Saint team. SAINTS
WIN HAMILTON TOURNAMENT April 13: St. Lawrence University's
men's golf tournament picked up a tournament victory in its spring opener on Friday,
winning the eight-team Hamilton Invitational. John Pezdek
led the Saints with a 78 and was second overall to Tom Farraro of Hamilton, who
shot a 77 on his home course. Only three golfers broke 80 in the competition.
Saint freshman Simon Watson shot 81, Pete Wilson shot an 82
and Joe Keniston an 84 as the Saints had a team score of 325 with Plattsburgh
second a stroke back. Hamilton was third with 332 strokes
followed by Oswego, Hamilton B, Cazeovia, Utica and Utica-Rome. SAINT
GOLFERS TIE FOR FIFTH IN ECAC TOURNEY; PEZDEK LEADS SUNDAY CHARGE
Oct. 7: St. Lawrence University's men's golf team concluded its fall season with
a tie for fifth in the ECAC Championships at Middlebury Saturday and Sunday. The
Saints shot a two day total of 621 for their best four out of five scores and
were tied with Salem State. Skidmore, behind medallist Joey Pohle's 72-73-145,
won the team title with a team score of 608 while Rochester was second with 613,
Babson third at 616 and Middlebury fourth at 620 in a 17-team field. John
Pezdek led the Saints, finishing in a tie for fifth with rounds of 78 and 72 for
a 150 total. Drew Burdick also made the top 20, finishing tied for 14th with identical
77's for a 154 total. Freshman Joe Keniston shot 84-75-159 to tie for 36th while
Ian Coryea shot 78-82 and tied for 42nd with a 160 total and Pete Wilson tied
for 57th with rounds of 83 and 81 and a 164 total.
Pezdek's
even-par 72 in the Sunday round matched the low round of the day and was one of
only six par or better rounds in the two days of the tournament. Rochester's Joe
Quijano, who tied Pohle for low score at 145, but lost in a playoff for medallist
honors, shot the lone-sub par round, a 71, out of 340 rounds played in the tournament.
The Saints shot 316 on Saturday under blustery conditions
and were tied for 12th in the tournament, but their team score of 305 on Sunday
was the day's third best, just three strokes behind Babson's 302, to jump them
seven spots in the final team standings. MONSELL
33RD IN PRINCETON GOLF INVITATIONAL Oct.
7: St. Lawrence University sophomore Kristen Monsell shot rounds of 84 and 89
on the par-72, 5813 yard course at Springdale Country Club in Princeton and tied
for 33rd overall in a 119-golfer field as the Saint women's golf team concluded
its fall season with a 22nd place showing in a 24-team field. The
tournament, which included just four Division III teams among its 24 teams, was
won by Yale with host Princeton second, William and Mary third, Brown fourth and
Penn fifth. Monsell
was tied for 21st after the opening round and shot her sixth sub-90 round of the
season in the Sunday concluding round. Patty Bresnahan was the Saints' second
golfer with rounds of 104 and 98 for a 202 total. Freshmen Katri Natti and Reva
Brandt each shot 214 and Bridget Everly shot 220 for the two-day event.
MONSELL 11TH IN MT. HOLYOKE INVITATIONAL
Sept.
30: Kristen Monsell tied for fourth with an 83 after the first round of the Mt.
Holyoke Invitational and came back with an 86 on Sunday to finish 11th in the
20-team, 98-golfer event. Monsell's 83 on the 5,803 yard par-72
The Orchards course matched her low round of the year. She finished with a 169
total and was tied for fourth among Division III players in a field which included
NCAA Division III champion Methodist College and several Division I and II teams.
Only two golfers in the entire field broke 80 in the tournament. Central
Connecticut won it with the help of medallist Colleen McDonald's 81-80-161 total
and a 662 team score. Methodist was second with 663 strokes followed by Dartmouth,
Amherst, Boston College and Harvard. St. Lawrence finished 14th as a team with
a 778 total and was fifth among Division III teams. In addition
to Monsell's 169, Andrea Mercurio shot 94-93-187 and was 50th, Patty Bresnahan
shot a 211 total, Katri Natti a 212 and Brdiget Everly a 221 on a challenging

THIRD IN UCAA GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS; QUALIFY FOR ECAC CHAMPIONSHIP Sept.
27: St. Lawrence University's men's golf team shot a team score of 302 and finished
third behind champion Skidmore and second place Rochester in the Upstate Collegiate
Athletic Association Golf Championships held in conjunction with the ECAC Qualifier
at the Saratoga Spa State Park Course on Thursday. The Saints
qualified for the ECAC Division III Tournament for the first time by finishing
fourth in the regional event and will play at Middlebury October 6-7. Ian
Coryea and Joe Keniston tied for seventh with 75 and earned UCAA second-team All
Conference honors. The tournament was won by Joey Pohle of
Skidmore, who shot 68 on the par-72 layout. In addition to Coryea and Keniston,
counting scores for the Saints included Pete Wilson and John Pezdek, who each
shot 76 and tied for 11th in a tightly bunched field. Drew Burdick was also in
at 76 and tied for 11th while Nick Politi and Randy Todd shot 83 and were tied
for 35th. Skidmore placed four golfers in the top 11 and finished
with a 292 total while Rochester was eight strokes back at 300. The Saints trailed
Rochester by two, but had a seven stroke lead on fourth place RPI. Clarkson was
fifth at 310 followed by Hamilton with 311 and Hobart at 325. Skidmore's
295 was four strokes better than second-place Plattsburgh's 299 in the regional
qualifier. Rochester and the Saints will join those teams plus St. John Fisher
(5th, 307), Nazareth (6th, 308), Clarkson and Hamilton at Middebury. Just four
golfers from each team were designated as part of the ECAC qualifier which led
to the two-stroke increase in Skidmore's score. Counting scores
for the Saints in the ECAC qualifier were turned in by Coryea, Keniston, Pezdek

SHOOT TEAM RECORD 295 FINISH SIXTH AT WILLIAMS Sept.
23: St. Lawrence University's men's golf team broke the 300 barrier for its top
four scores for the second straight round Saturday, shooting a team record 295,
but fell off the pace on Sunday to finish sixth in the 21-team Williams Invitational.
The Saints 295 trailed only host Williams and Rochester which
tied at 293 after Saturday's round, but while Williams shot a team record 290
on Sunday to finish with a 583 total, the Saints had a round of 311. Skidmore
jumped into second with a 592 total, followed by Rochester 597, Colgate 598, Emory
at 605 and the Saints at 606. All
five Saint golfers shot below 80 on Saturday, led by John Pezdek's (left) even-par
71 on the 6,640 yard layout at the Taconic Golf Club. Pezdek came back with a
74 on Sunday for a 145 total, the best of the season for the Saints.

Burdick shot 73 on Saturday and came back with a 75 on Sunday for a 148 total
while Ian Coryea shot 75-80 for a 155 total and freshman Joe Keniston followed
a 76 on Saturday with an 82 on Sunday and finished at 158 for the Saints' 606
total. Randy Todd was the fifth man for the Saints and shot 77 on Saturday and
88 on Sunday to finish at 165. Pezdek finished in a four way
tie for third, trailing only Williams' Will Sicks, who shot 69-68-137 for a tournament
record and second place finisher Joey Pohle of Skidmore who shot 70-74 for a 144
total. Burdick's two round total of 148 also made the top ten, tying for eighth.
"I was pretty happy with the results," said Saint coach Mary Lawrence. "Saturday
was an outstanding job by everyone.we would have liked to have done better Sunday,
but we're still a young team and on the learning curve as far as competition in
big tournaments. "I think the guys know they can compete with
the top teams, and our next goal is a strong finish Thursday at the UCAA/ECAC
Qualifier and a trip to the ECAC's to end the fall season." The
Saints will try to wrest the UCAA title from perennial champion Skidmore, and
earn their trip to the ECAC Championships when they play the league championship
and qualifier on the Saratoga Spa Course Thursday. Skidmore has won six straight
UCAA titles. The top three teams in the regional qualifer
plus the top two individuals and ties not on qualifying teams will advance to
the ECAC Championships at Middlebury. MONSELL,
MERCURIO LEAD SAINTS TO WIN IN ELMIRA INVITATIONAL
Sept. 21: St. Lawrence University golfers Kristen Monsell and Andrea Mercurio
each shot 88 and led the Saints to a convincing win in the Elmira Invitational
on Friday. Monsell won the tie-breaker to take medallist honors
in the tournament while the Saints easily outdistanced second place Brockport
for the team title with a 371 total for the top four scores.
Patty Bresnahan shot 95, and freshman Katri Nattie shot 100 to give the Saints
the win with Brockport second with 444 and host Elmira third with 459. Bridget
Everly shot 113 to complete the Saint scoring. PEZDEK
PACES SAINTS TO FOURTH AT MIDDLEBURY SAINTS BREAK 300 BARRIER AS A TEAM ON SUNDAY
Sept. 17: John Pezdek (below) finished fifth in a 105 golfer field
with a 149 total and the Saint men's golf team had three scores in the top 30
to finish fourth in the 21-team Middlebury College Invitational on Sunday. "It
was a great weekend for us," said coach Mary Lawrence. "Definitely the best we
have had in the short time we have had a team." The Saints shot 298 as
a team on Sunday's round, the first tournament sub-300 score the team has posted.
"That was one of our goals," said Lawrence. "Now we know we can do it, and while
there may be some ups and downs along the way, if we can stay right in that range,
we'll have a great fall." The Saints were eighth after Saturday's
opening round with a four-golfer score of 317, but shot the third best team round
on Sunday, trailing only Skidmore and Williams which shot 295 and ended up tied
for the overall tournament lead with team totals of 610. Skidmore was awarded
the tie-breaker on the basis of the best fifth player score. Babson finished third
with a two-day total of 613 with the Saints just two strokes back with a 615 total.
Host Middlebury finished fifth with a 617 total. Pezdek shot
77 on Saturday to pace the Saints and the team came through with four rounds in
the 70s on Sunday. Pezdek shot even-par 72 while Drew Burdick, who was fighting
injury on Saturday when he shot 85, came back with a one-over 73 on Sunday to
finish with a 158 total, tied for 27th overall. Freshman Joe Keniston followed
a Saturday 78 with a 76 on Sunday to finish at 154, tied for 14th overall while
Randy Todd shot 79-77-156 and finished tied for 21st. Pete Wilson was the Saints'
fifth golfer and shot 83-83-166 to tie for 59th. "Skidmore,
Williams and Babson are all ranked teams and we were right there with them this
weekend," said Lawrence. "We've got another big tournament as far as rankings
go coming up at Williams this weekend.we just want to build on what we have done

WOMEN AT BRYANT INVITATIONAL Sept. 17: Kristen
Monsell shot an 85 on Sunday to take tenth place overall in the Bryant College
Women's Invitational in Rhode Island as the Saint women's golf team finished seventh
in a ten-team field. The University of Hartford won the title, led by Kristy
Finlayson, who shot a two-under 69 on Sunday. Monsell shot 94 on Saturday,
but took nine strokes off that round with a solid performance on Sunday. She finished
at 179 for the two-round tournament. Bridget Everly was the Saints second finisher
in a tie for 29th with a 214 total while Reva Brandt shot 225 and Katri Natti
227. The Saint women will play at Williams Wednesday and at Elmira on Friday. MONSELL
LEADS SAINT WOMEN AT WILLIAMS Sept. 19: Kristin Monsell shot a round
of 90 at the Taconic Golf Club at Williams College on Wednesday as St. Lawrence
University's women's golf team finished second in a tri-match with the University
at Albany and host Williams. Albany and St. Lawrence are varsity
teams while Williams is a club team heading for varsity status a year from now.
The Saints' top four scores combined for a 391 total while Albany had a 354, led
by Jill Friedman's 82. Williams had a 448 team total. In addition to Monsell's
90, Andrea Mercurio shot 96, Patty Bresnahan 98 and Bridget Everly 107 for the
top four Saint scorers. Katri Nattie shot 108 and Reva Brandt 110 to complete
the Saint scoring. The Saint women will play at Elmira on
Friday. |
