MUDGE THIRD, SAINTS 2ND AT LIBERTY LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS Sept. 29: Chris Mudge shot his collegiate best round with a two-under par 70 to lead the field after day one and finished third overall with a one-under par 143 total to help the Saints to a second place finish in the Liberty League Championships at the Saratoga Spa State Park Course on Sunday.
Host Skidmore shot a four-score best of 287 on Sunday to spread a one-stroke lead to ten over the Saints in the tema race. SLU shot 296 for a 596 team total while the Thoroughbreds shot 586. Rochester was six strokes back in third at 602. Clarkson was fourth, RPI fifth and Hobart sixth in the final team standings.
Mudge, whose previous low round in collegiate competition was a 73 at Williams last Sunday, was one of just three golfers to break par on the course on Saturday. He came back with a solid 73 on Sunday and earned first team Liberty League honors with a third place finish and a 143 total.Matt Canavan of Skidmore and Stephen Goodridge of Rochester were one stroke back heading into the second round. Canavan matched the Skidmore record with a 65 on Sunday and was medalist and Liberty League Player of the Year with a 136 total score. Rochester's Stephen Goodrich finished second with rounds of 71 and 68 for a 139 total.
Wes Ballantyne and Max Davis earned second team all league honors as they tied for second with identical rounds of 76-74-150. L.B. Haney shot 75 on Sunday and had a 154 total to finish 14th while Ben von Reyn shot 80 in his second round and was tied for 23rd with a 158 total.
Also competing for St. Lawrence were Matt Wight with rounds of 82-78-160, Doug Weaver with rounds of 83-78-161 and Pete Harriman, who shot 83-85-168. | Head Coach 315-229-5789
