Howard was a dual-sport athlete, competing in both Cross Country and Nordic Skiing. He was a two-time MVP of the cross country squad, and finished in 3rd place in the Vermont State Cross Country Championships. The Richmond, VT native, who also served as captain for each team, was also on the Eastern U.S. Championship Nordic Ski Team for two years. Howard's athletic efforts were matched by those in the classroom, as he was a consistent figure on the Honor Roll.
