SAINTS CONCLUDE GREAT SEASON AT ECAC INVITATIONAL May 11: The St. Lawrence University men’s crew team finished another successful season on Sunday after racing at the ECAC National Invitational Collegiate Regatta in Worcester, Mass., where the Saints saw some tough competition from top programs from all over the country.
The Men’s Varsity Eight raced on Saturday afternoon in the fourth of four heats in the event, where they placed sixth behind heat-winner The University of Michigan (6:08.69), who has been consistently receiving votes to get on to the USRowing Collegiate Poll. Completing the top five in order was Williams (6:12.36), the University of California Davis (6:13.25), Hobart (6:13.48), and The University of Massachusetts (6:27.56).
In heat four of the semifinals on Sunday, the Scarlet and Brown came in fourth of five boats, finishing behind familiar faces in the Statesmen (6:15.04), Rochester Institute of Technology (6:21.24), and the University of North Carolina (6:23.37). The Saints (6:27.67) finished ahead of Liberty League opponent Hamilton College, who came in at 6:30.07.
Their efforts landed them in the Men’s Varsity Eight Fourth Level Final, where St. Lawrence came away victorious in the four-boat field with a time of 6:31.51, ahead of Hamilton (6:36.82), the University of Mary Washington (6:40.69) and Colby College (6:45.06).
The men’s varsity 8 boat included senior Kyle Emery (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock Secondary), junior Mike Syslo (Shrewsbury, MA/St. John’s), junior Seth Corliss (Castleton, VT/Fair Haven Union), junior Jullian Holland (Falls Village, CT/Housatonic Valley), seniors Seth Hussey (Biddeford, ME/Biddeford), Kit Wright (Johnson, VT/Lamoille Union), Tedd Rama (Cottekill, NY/Rondout Valley), and Evan Smith (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) with first-year coxswain Allison Webster (Weston, MA/Weston).
The Men’s Second Varsity Eight competed solely on Sunday, where they placed fifth with a time of 6:27.38) in the second heat of the event behind Michigan (6:04.71), Worcester Polytechnic Institute (6:06.94), Bates (6:07.90), and Williams (6:13.38). In the Third Level Final of the event, St. Lawrence defeated Colby by open water with a time of 7:16.42, well ahead of Colby’s 7:26.41 finish.
The crew from St. Lawrence included first-year Joey Colagrossi (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich), junior Matt Sonagere (Auburn, ME/Edward Little High), junior Liam Delahanty (Francestown, NY/Conval Regional), first-year Dave MacClaren (Madison, CT/Stratton Mountain School), sophomore Oke McAndrews (Dover, MA/Loomis Chaffee), senior Brent Davis (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca), senior Lawson Condrey (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent), senior Andrew Lagos (Bow, NH/Bow), and first-year coxswain Alyssa Halton (Ithaca, NY/Lansing).
