SAINTS SWEEP DUTCHMEN IN HOME REGATTA Apr. 20: The St. Lawrence University men’s crew team hosted Liberty League opponent Union College Sunday morning and swept the Dutchmen in each of the three races that were held on the St. Lawrence River in Waddington, NY.
The men’s varsity 8 earned its first victory of the spring, winning the 2,000-meter piece race by less than half a second, crossing the finish line first with a time of 6:15.2, while Union crossed at 6:15.6.
The Scarlet and Brown’s second varsity 8 also emerged victorious, finishing the race in a time of 6:38, handily defeating Union’s boat, who came in at 7:11.
The men’s novice 4 boat rounded out the trio of wins by winning its third straight race of the season. The crew finished with a time of 7:22, while the Dutchmen came in nine seconds later with a time of 7:31.
The men’s varsity 8 boat included senior Kyle Emery (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock Secondary), junior Mike Syslo (Shrewsbury, MA/St. John’s), junior Seth Corliss (Castleton, VT/Fair Haven Union), junior Jullian Holland (Falls Village, CT/Housatonic Valley), seniors Seth Hussey (Biddeford, ME/Biddeford), Kit Wright (Johnson, VT/Lamoille Union), Tedd Rama (Cottekill, NY/Rondout Valley), and Evan Smith (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) with first-year coxswain Allison Webster (Weston, MA/Weston).
The second varsity 8 crew included first-year Joey Colagrossi (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich), junior Matt Sonagere (Auburn, ME/Edward Little High), junior Liam Delahanty (Francestown, NY/Conval Regional), first-year Dave MacClaren (Madison, CT/Stratton Mountain School), sophomore Oke McAndrews (Dover, MA/Loomis Chaffee), senior Brent Davis (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca), senior Lawson Condrey (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent), senior Andrew Lagos (Bow, NH/Bow), and first-year coxswain Alyssa Halton ( Ithaca, NY/ Lansing).
First-years Greg Gotta (Northbridge, MA/ St. John’s), Cam West (New Britain, CT/ Avon Old Farms), Brendan McGrath (Hingham, MA/ Hingham), Nick Blum (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville East) and first-year coxswain Meghan Koeller earned the victory in the novice 4 race for St. Lawrence.
The Saints were also scheduled to race Hamilton College this weekend, but due to wind conditions on Saturday, the teams were unable to compete on the last half of the course and scrimmaged 1,000-meter pieces with the Continentals.
St. Lawrence will travel to Saratoga Springs, NY next weekend for the 2008 Liberty League Championships where they will face crews from Hamilton, Hobart, Skidmore, Union and Vassar Colleges.
