SAINTS EXPLODE IN
2ND HALF FOR WIN OVER SCRANTON
Sept. 7: Junior Erin Lloyd scored two goals and set up a third and
the Saint field hockey team pulled back to .500 with a 6-0 thrashing
of Scranton in the third place game at the Oneonta Invitational
Field Hockey Tournament on Sunday.
Lloyd, who had the only goal in Saturday's 2-1 loss to host Oneonta,
opened the scoring 22:02 into the first half from Carrie Eggleston
and that goal stood up as the only goal in the first half.
Tiffany Elsenbeck opened the scoring floodgates just 23 seconds
into the second half, coverting from Lloyd and it went to 3-0 just
3:07 later when Lloyd scored her second of the game from Jenny Heffler.
Heffler scored her first of the year from Nicola Reid at the 54:40
mark, Elsenbeck scored her second of the game from Majken Tranby
just under five minutes later and first year player Saeger Philpot
scored her first collegiate goal from classmate Patty Ball with
just under two minutes to play.
The Saints outshot Scranton 34-5 and goaltender Amelia Gomez needed
just one save for the shout. Kim Reynolds had 10 saves for Scranton.
St. Lawrence will host Oswego in its home opener Friday at 4 p.m.
ONEONTA TIPS SAINTS
IN OPENER
Sept. 6: Kerry Birnstill scored from Brynne Hoover
14:57 into the second half to snap a 1-1 tie and lift Oneonta to
a 2-1 win over St. Lawrence in the opening game of the Oneonta Field
Hockey Invitational on Saturday.
The Saints, 0-1, fell behind early when Jessica Garbedian
scored 22:30 into the game, but SLU came back to tie when Erin Lloyd
scored from Jenny Heffler with 3:16 to go in the half.
Kelly Mohr had seven saves for Oneonta, now 1-2 while
Amelia Gomez made nine stops for the Saints. SLU was outshot 19-17
in the game, but had a 4-3 edge in penalty corners.
The Saints will play the loser of the game between
Scranton and Eastern Connecticut in the third place game Sunday
at noon.
