SKIDMORE TURNS BACK
SAINT RALLY 4-3
Oct. 11: Annie Ledyard tipped in Hallory Mogren’s shot off
a penalty corner with 1:45 to go in regulation time to give the
Skidmore field hockey tam a 4-3 Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association
victory over St. Lawrence Saturday afternoon.
Skidmore, ranked eighth nationally, jumped out to a 3-0 halftime
lead with penalty shot goals by Colleen Barber and Mogren and an
unassisted score by Katie Weber with 2:52 to go in the half.
Sarah Rohrs, who came in late in the first half, then held Skidmore
in check and the Saints battled back. Erin Lloyd scored the first
of her two goals, coverting from Tiffany Elsenbeck with just over
six minutes gone in the first half and three minutes later Abigail
Copeland scored from Nicola Reid to make it a 3-2 game. Lloyd tied
it from Jenny Heffler with 18:07 to play before Ledyard got the
game winner.
Rohrs had 12 saves for the Saints and Amelia Gomez had four while
Jenna Spackman made three saves for Skidmore.
The loss snapped a three-game Saint win streak and marked the first
time the Saints have scored two or more goals in a game, but lost
this season.
Skidmore had a 27-11 edge in shots, but the two teams were even
at 8-8 in penalty corners.
The Saints are now 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the UCAA while Skidmore
improves to 10-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
ELSENBECK BEATS UNION WITH 1:25 TO PLAY
Oct. 10:Tiffany Elsenbeck scored the game-winning
goal with just 1:25 left in regulation as St. Lawrence defeated
Union, 3-2, in an Upstate
Collegiate Athletic Association field hockey game on Frank Bailey
Field.
The victory lifted the Saints' overall record to 6-3 overall, 3-1
in the conference. Union, meanwhile, fell to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in the
UCAA.
Elsenbeck picked up her fourth goal of the season by converting a
pass from Jenny Heffler.
Heffler helped the Saints grab a 1-0 lead with 13:46 showing in the
first half when she fed Erin Lloyd, who scored her fifth goal of the
season. Ali Mattison found the back of the net for the fifth time this
year as she scored off of Elsenbeck's pass to give the visitor's a 2-0
advantage with 25:25 left in the game.
Union came back to tie the contest on consecutive goals by Hellary
Benoit and Kristin Murphy. Benoit, a freshman, picked up her
first
collegiate goal with 20:20 left to play while Murphy's second
tally of
the campaign tied the game at 2-2 with 17:02 remaining. Senior
Liz
Soto, the Dutchwomen's leading scorer with seven points, assisted
on
both goals.
St. Lawrence junior Sarah Rohrs recorded six saves while playing
the first half. Senior Amelia Gomez kicked out three second-half
shots
and was credited with her fourth win in seven decisions.
Sophomore Amanda Meissner stopped 19 shots for the Dutchwomen,
including 11 in the first half.
