HEFFLER SPARKS WIN
OVER HAMILTON
Sept. 30: Jenny Heffler scored her third and fourth
goals of the season and the Saint defense limited Hamilton College
to one shot on goal as the field hockey team improved to 5-3 overall
and 2-1 in the UCAA with a 3-0 win at Hamilton Tuesday evening.
All three Saint goals came off penalty corners in
the first half as Heffler opened the scoring from Nicola Reid 17:36
into the game, Carrie Eggleston scored from Erin Lloyd 21:07 in
and Heffler got her second from Ali Mattison and Reid just 5:10
later.
Amelia Gomez made one save in the first half and Sarah
Rohrs did not need a save in the second half as the two Saint goaltender
split the shuout.
The Saints outshot Hamilton 21-2 and had 18 penalty
corners to three for the Continentals.
A game originally scheduled for Saturday against Geneseo
has been switched to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1. The Saints will return
to action with a UCAA set at Union and Skidmore on October 10 and
11.

3-0 FOR 1ST UCAA WIN
Sept. 27: Tiffany Elsenbeck redirected a pass from Liz Allison past
Rochester goalie Courtney Nussbaum just 3:31 into the game and junior
goaltender Sarah Rohrs made it stand up as the game winner with
her first career shutout as St. Lawrence University's field hockey
team improved to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic
Association with a 3-0 win over the Yellowjackets Saturday afternoon.
Elsenbeck's goal was her third of the season and dropped Rochester
to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the UCAA. The Saints scored all three
of their goals in the first half and improved to 4-0 on the year
when scoring two or more goals in a game.
Sophomore midfielder Majken Tranby scored her first collegiate goal
24:25 into play off a penalty corner with Elsenbeck assisting and
Abigail Copeland scored her fourth of the year, also off a penalty
corner with a blast from the top of the circle set up by Nicola
Reid.
The Saints were outshot 11-9 and Rochester had 11 penalty corners
to the Saints' nine, but Rohrs came up with nine saves for her shutout
while Nussbaum finished with five saves for the Yellowjackets.

SAINTS IN OVERTIME IN FIELD HOCKEY
Sept. 26: Sophomore Tara Baker slid the ball under diving St. Lawrence
University goalie Amelia Gomez with 4:40 to play in overtime to
lift 18th-ranked William Smith to a 2-1 victory over the Saints
in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association field hockey opener
for both teams Friday afternoon.
Baker's goal, her third of the season, ended an exciting and well
played game which either team could have won in the extra session.
Heron goalie Jessica Kulesa had four saves in overtime including
two in one-on-one situations and the other on a hard shot on a penalty
corner by Abigail Copeland five minutes into the overtime, while
Gomez had two saves in the extra period, one of which was a one-on-one.
The Saints, now 3-3, opened the scoring when Carrie Eggleston scored
he first of the season off a pass by Tiffany Elsenbeck with 6:50
gone in the game, but the Herons, 4-2, came back to tie when Sarah
Dillon scored her first of the year in a scramble after a penalty
corner at 33:16 of the first half.
Neither team scored in the second half as Gomez made six of her
11 total saves in the half and the Saints did not get a shot on
goal.
