Coach Fran Grembowicz

Entering her tenth season as Saint field hockey coach, Fran Grembowicz has established the Saints among the region's top programs, tying the SLU record with 14 wins en route both the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association tournament title and the ECAC Mid-Atlantic field hockey championship in 2000 and leading her team to the NCAA regional final in 2001.

Her teams have been .500 or better for the last seven seasons and have a 81-40-0 record in that span. Her career record at SLU is 96-58-0 in field hockey.

Her teams made three straight post-season appearancesfrom 2000-2002 and her team won its second ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship in three years in '02. The Saints were Liberty League tournament finalists in 2004 and 2006. She was conference Coach of the Year in 2001 and was one of the coaches for the North team in the North-South Senior All Star game in 2004.

Also the coach of the Saint softball program, one she built from the ground up, and her team was 2000 conference champion and 2001 conference runner-up. She began her Saint coaching career as women's basketball coach, and laid the foundation for a program which emerged as one of the top small college programs in the East.

Grembowicz, who has an extensive college and high school coaching background, came to the Saint program from the University of Chicago to start the 1991-92 season in basketball. She was assistant director of undergraduate studies in the college of kinesiology at Chicago. Prior to that she was assistant varsity basketball coach at Smith College, where he also served as junior varsity basketball coach and assistant softball coach. She has also been athletic director at Rochester (VT) High School and coached field hockey, basketball and softball.

A graduate of Castleton State with master's degrees from the University of Vermont and Smith, Grembowicz has played in national softball tournaments and was a member of the United States Field Hockey Association Northeast squad in 1979.

In addition to her duties as field hockey and softball coach, Fran is also an assistant athletic director and coordinates the St. Lawrence athlete recruitment program.

 

Assistant Coach Meagan Connolly

Meagan Connolly joins the Saint field hockey staff as assistant coach for her second season in 2007 after an outstanding athletic and academic career at the University of Maine-Orono.

 

Connolly was captain of the Maine team and was America East Defensive Player of the Year as a senior. A Northeast All Region selection at back, she was a Division I Senior All Star and was an America East All Conference team member in both 2004 and 2005. She was also on the America East All Rookie team as a first-year collegian. In addition to her on-field success, she was a UMaine Scholar-Athlete Silver Medalist and a member of the America East Academic Honor Roll and America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the NFHCA National Academic Squad.

 

A three-time All League selection and two-time Sectional all star at Mahopac, NY High School, Meagan led Mahopac to the 2001 New York State Championship and was named to the All Tournament team.

 

She was also a student administrative aide in the Maine Athletic Department, the secretary of the Maine Student Athlete Advisory Committee and a tutor in the Maine athletic department. She worked at the Maine field hockey camps in the summer of 2004 and 2005 and has been an instructor in both lacrosse and gymnastics
