SAINTS COMPLETE TWO-DAY GAME WITH 4-1 WIN AT RENSSELAER

Oct. 7: In a game which spanned two different days due to weather issues on Saturday, 18 th-ranked St. Lawrence University scored two goals in each half for a 4-1 Liberty League field hockey victory over Rensselaer in Troy on Sunday.

The Saints had a 2-0 lead with 8:54 to go in the first half when the game was halted for the second time by thunderstorms Saturday afternoon. The two teams resumed Sunday morning and after playing the final 8:54 of the first half without further scoring, the Saints grabbed a 4-0 lead with two goals in the first four minutes of the second half to complete a sweep of their Liberty League road series. SLU beat Vassar 2-0 on Friday and is now 8-2 overall and 3-2 in Liberty League competition.

Sophomore defender Jen Stetson was named Liberty League Defender of the Week and first year Kelsey Berry was the Rookie of the Week.

The Saints opened the scoring at RPI 9:50 into the game as Red Hawk goalie Kate Williams kicked out a shot by Julia Kiernan, but Meg Danielson picked up the rebound and put it back into the net for her fourth of the season and the 1-0 lead. The Saints went up 2-0 with 20:17 gone in the half when Kristi Onzik pounced on a loose ball in the goal area and buried it past Williams for her second of the season.

Shortly after the second goal, the game was suspended due to heavy rain and lightning and resumed at 11 a.m. Sunday.

While the remainder of the half was scoreless, the Saints scored twice early in the second half to put the game on ice.

Berry scored both goals, netting her first collegiate goal when midfielder Mackenzie Kersen set her up for a shot from in close 2:27 into the half and Berry made it 4-0 when her shot careened off the back of the RPI goalie and in at 38:59.

RPI spoiled the shutout bid with 2:01 to go in the game as goalie Lilly Callahan made the first save, but Jessica Corrigan pounced on the rebound and fired it back into the cage to make it a 4-1 final.

Senior goalie Lindsey Taylor made two saves in 64:45 of action before giving way to Corrigan for the final 5:15. Williams had five saves for RPI.

The Saints had a 15-8 overall edge in shots and a 7-4 lead in penalty corners in the game.

SLU returns to action at Hartwick Saturday at noon.
