St. Lawrence University has maintained a long tradition of Alpine skiing excellence.  The men’s and women’s teams have competed for over 50 years at the elite level and the University retains the honor of being a founding member of the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA).  As a member of the EISA, St. Lawrence regularly qualifies athletes to the Men's and Women's NCAA Skiing Championships, comprised of Division I, II and III institutions.  The carnival schedule includes St. Lawrence’s home event, in Lake Placid, NY, in January, against teams (with NCAA division indicated) from Dartmouth(I),  Harvard(I), Williams(III), Middlebury(III), Colby(III), Bates(III), Bowdoin(III), St. Michaels(II) and the Universities of Vermont(I) and New Hampshire(I).

The St. Lawrence ski program utilizes its proximity to a variety of world-class training venues.  Whiteface Mt. in Lake Placid, NY, along with Camp Fortune and Mt. Cascade in Ottawa, Ontario, provide challenging FIS homologated giant slalom and slalom terrain, which is available up to six days per week. On-snow training and/or racing begins in early November and often continues into April.

St. Lawrence’s academic calendar is also well suited to the student-athlete and allows for two major camps; one during the week-long Thanksgiving break and the second during the six week Christmas/January recess. Recent sites have included Innerkrems and St. Lambrecht, Austria; Copper Mt., Vail and Breckenridge in CO; Mt. Tremblant and Mt. Saint-Sauveur in Quebec; and the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY.

With two former St. Lawrence athletes, Thomas Vonn and Marta Vastagh, having competed at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, UT, the program continues its commitment toward developing great ski racers.
