EHRINGER TO RECEIVE

FRITS H. SAMPLE AWARD

Mar. 31: Senior Kristen Ehringer, from Moon Township, PA, was recently honored by her teammates, voted by them to receive the Frits H. Sample Memorial Award. The award, which is given to an outstanding student-athlete from the alpine ski team, recognizes contributions made both on the slopes and in the classroom.

During Ehringer’s four year career at St. Lawrence, she has excelled at both athletics and academics, being named to the NCAA Academic All-America team in 2005, 2006, 2007 and again this year in 2008. She was a consistent scorer for the team and raced carnivals all four of her years skiing for the Saints. Her best finish, a 23 rd in the giant slalom, came at the 2006 Eastern Inter-Collegiate Skiing Championships at Middlebury College.

On campus she is a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, a Qualitative Resource Center teaching assistant and a student-peer tutor for numerous courses. A presentation of the award will be made during the annual Moving Up Day ceremonies April 26.

Established in October of 2000, the award was created to celebrate the memory of Frits H. Sample ’94. A member of the St. Lawrence ski team, a psychology major and a dean’s list student, Frits was a vibrant member of the Laurentian community. After St. Lawrence, Frits moved to Colorado where he was an active mountain climber, hiker, and outdoor enthusiast. He passed away during the summer of 2000 while pursuing a sport that he loved.

EHRINGER AND KARAM EARN 2008 ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA TEAM SELECTIONS

Mar. 30: Kristen Ehringer ’08 and Elizabeth Karam ’09 have been awarded 2008 All-Academic Certificates. They were both recognized for the achievement by the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association during the 2008 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Skiing Championships, recently hosted by the University of Montana in Bozeman.

To be honored with the award, a skier must maintain a fall grade point average of 3.5 or better and must also compete in the Eastern Inter-Collegiate Skiing Championships, which was held this year at the Middlebury College Snowbowl in late February.

This is the sixth consecutive year that multiple athletes representing the alpine ski team have been honored by receiving the award.
