SAINTS SEASON WRAP UP

Apr. 1: The St.Lawrence Alpine Ski team concluded the 2004 season with an eighth place finish at the Middlebury Carnival. The Saints consistently finished eighth in a very tough EISA conference full of predominately Division I schools.

Sophomore Hannah Kreizel led the Saint women's team in 2004. In the Giant Slalom competition, Kreizel had six top-30 finishes, including a season best top-20 finish at Vermont. In the Slalom, she posted three top-20 finishes, including a 16th place finish at Vermont.

Junior Nicholas Gush and freshman Eric Morgan led the Saint men's team in the Slalom in 2004. Gush posted three top-30 finishes in the Slalom, including a season high 26th place finish at Vermont. Morgan posted two top-30 finishes, including a season high 27 at Dartmouth. Morgan also posted two top-30 finishes in the Giant Slalom. His best finish was a 23rd place finish at Vermont.

The Saint men's team has no seniors and the women's team just one on the 2004 roster and will look to build on this year's successes and produce even better results in 2005.

KREIZEL LEADS SAINTS IN GIANT SLALOM AT MIDDLEBURY

Feb. 28: Hannah Kreizel led the St.Lawrence women's Alpine team with a 26th place finish in the giant slalom at the Middlebury Carnival. Kreizel finished with a combined time of 2:10.32.

Ann Marie Turner turned in a 30th place finish with a time of 2:11.69. Sarah Lauridsen finished in 41st in 2:14.34. Abi Copeland came in at 44th in 2:14.94. Kaitlin Guendelsberger came in right behind in 45th with a total time of 2:15.18. Melissa Medinger finished for the Saints in 55th with a time of 2:16.70. The women finished in seventh place with 82 points.

The men were led by Eric Morgan with a 31st place finish in a total time of 2:05.26. Brendan Levine came in at 45th with a combined time of 2:07.96. Finishing right behind Levine was Nicholas Gush in 46th with a time of 2:08.56. Karsten Jennings finished in 55th with a time of 2:12.63. Anthony Puccia came in at 59th in a time of 2:28.57 and David Rothman finished in 61st in 2:44.21. The men finished in ninth place with 59 points. The St.Lawrence ski team, Nordic and Alpine combined, finished in eighth place with 645 points. Middlebury won the carnival with 1058 points.

KREIZEL LEADS ALPINE TEAMS AT MIDDLEBURY

Feb. 27: In alpine competition at the Middlebury Carnival on Friday the Saint women were seventh with 88 points in the slalom and the Saint men were ninth with 63.

The Saint women placed three racers in the top-30 in the slalom. Hannan Kreizel led the women with a 22nd place finish in a total time of 1:39.81. Abi Copeland came in at 26th with a total time of 1:40.76. Kaitlin Guendelsberger came in at 30th with a total time of 1:42.06.

Other finishers for the Saints were Melissa Medinger in 33rd with a total time of 1:43.13, Sarah Lauridsen in 43rd in a time of 1:46.08 and Ann Marie Turner in 46th in 1:48.24.

Nicholas Gush led the Saint men with a 27th place finish in the slalom in a total time of 1:28.48. Karsten Jennings finished in 32nd with a total time of 1:30.51. Eric Morgan came in at 41st in 1:35.36 and David Rothman finished right behind in 42nd in 1:36.17. Anthony Puccia placed in 54th with a time of 1:46.73.

The Saints will compete in the Giant Slalom Saturday morning to finish the Middlebury Carnival.

KREIZEL'S 18TH TOPS SLALOM FINISHES AT WILLIAMS

Feb. 21: In alpine competition at the Williams Carnival on Saturday the Saint women were seventh with 44 points in the slalom and the Saint men were eighth with 36.

The Saints finished seventh overall in the Carnival with 371 points, just two points out of sixth place.

Hannah Kreizel had the top finish for the Saints for the second straight day and cracked the top 20 with a 18th place finish in the slalom. Kreizel combined runs of 54.60 seconds and 57.48 for a 1:52.08 total time. Jenni Lathrop of Colby was the Carnival champion with runs of 49.65 and 55.48 for a 1:45.31 total time.

Melissa Medinger was 20th for the Saint women with runs of 54.89 and 58.19 for a 1:53.08 total while Frani Forman completed the Saint scoring with runs of 56.48 and 1:01.49 for a 1:57.97 total and 28th place. Sarah Lauridsen was 31st with runs of 57.19 and 1:01.78 for a 1:58.97 total time.

Eric Morgan's 29th with runs of 57.31 and 57.96 for a 1:55.27 total led the Saint men. Paul MacDonald of Dartmouth was the event champion with runs of 50.02 and 52.33 for a 1:42.35 total time.

Stephen Patterson finished 30th with runs of 57.23 and 58.08 for a 1:55.31 aggregate and David Rothman completed the Saint scoring with runs of 55.68 and 1:05.93 for a 2:01.61 total time. Brendan Levine was 36th in 2:43.91.

KREIZEL LEADS ALPINE TEAMS AT WILLIAMS

Feb. 20:Hannah Kreizel had the top finish for the Saint alpine teams in Friday’s giant slalom at the Williams Carnival. Kreizel combined runs of 1:04.24 and 59.26 for an aggregate of 2:03.70 in a race won by Jenni Lathrop of Colby in 1:55.47.

Sarah Lauridsen was the second Saint scorer with runs of 1:06.57 and 1:02.15 for a 2:08.72 total, finishing 32nd and Franci Forman was 34th with runs of 1:06.92 and 1:02.84 for a 2:09.76 total.

Anthony Puccia was 34th with runs of 1:02.04 and 57.67 for a 1:59.71 total to lead the Saint men. Eric Morgan was the second Saint scorer in 39th with runs of 1:02.77 and 58.96 for a 2:01.73 aggregate while Stephen Patterson completed the Saint scoring with runs of 1:03.96 and 58.83 for a 2:01.91 total. Nicholas Gush finished 45th in 2:07.40. Matt Knittle of Vermont won the race with runs of 57.91 and 54.67 for a 1:52.58 combined time.

MEN, WOMEN EACH 7TH AT DARTMOUTH G.S.

Feb. 14: The Saint men's and women's alpine teams each finished seventh with 49 points in the giant slalom portion of the Dartmouth Winter Carnival on Saturday and the Saints combined men's and women's alpine and Nordic ski teams were eighth overall in a 12 team field.

SLU finished with a 416.5 point total, just one point behind seventh place Colby. Dartmouth won its own Carnival with 777 points.

Hannah Kreizel had the top finish for the Saint women with a 27th place as she combined runs of 1:07.44 and 1:06.41 for an aggregate time of 2:13.85. Kaitlin Guendelsberger was the second Saint scorer in 33rd with runs of 1:09.19 and 1:06.87 and a 2:16.06 total while Franci Forman was one spot back in 34th to complete the Saint scorers with runs of 1:09.61 and 1:06.48 for a 2:16.09 total. Jamie Kingsbury of Vermont led a UVM sweep of the top spots with runs of 1:04.29 and 1:03.29 for a 2:07.58 total.

Other Saint finishers for the women included Sarah Lauridsen in 40th with a 2:19.53 combined time, Abi Copeland in 42nd with a 2:20.50 and Melissa Medinger came back from first run difficulties with a 1:07.53 second run and finished 50th overall in 2:39.70.
David Rothman was the top finisher for the Saint men with runs of 1:04.60 and 1:02.79 for a 2:07.39 aggregate and 24th place in the men's giant slalom. Paul Epstein of UVM was the individual champion with nearly identical times of 1:01.75 and 1:01.24 for a 2:02.99 total time.

Other Saint scorers were Anthony Puccia and Eric Morgan who tied for 34th and earned 14.5 points each. Puccia had runs of 1:05.51 and 1:03.47 for a 2:08.98 total while Morgan had a 1:05.36 first run and a 1:03.62 second run for the same aggregate time. Other Saint finishers included Jon Weibrecht in 36th in 2:09.06, Nicholas Gush in 42nd with a total time of 2:10.85 and Brendan Levine in 49th with a 2:12.65 total.

KREIZEL 18TH AT DARTMOUTH CARNIVAL SLALOM


Feb. 13: Hannah Kreizel skied to an 18th place finish in the slalom competition at the Dartmouth Winter Carnival on Friday to highlight the performances of the St. Lawrence alpine ski team in day one of competition at Dartmouth.

The Saint Nordic and alpine teams stand seventh overall in the carnival after the first day of competition. Dartmouth leads after the Nordic races and the men's and women's slalom with 386 points while the Saints have 223.5, 2.5 points behind sixth place Colby.

The course at the Dartmouth Skiway took its toll on the Saints as the women were seventh with 57 points in a race won by Vermont with 98 in the team competition and the men had only two scorers finish and were 9th with 27 points in a race won by Dartmouth with 102.

Courtney Calise of Dartmouth was the overall women's winner, combining runs of 46.64 seconds and 54.35 seconds for a 1:40.99 aggregate time. Kreizel was timed in 50.17 on her first run and 56.96 on the second run for a 1:47.13 total time.

Melissa Medinger finished 24th with runs of 51.68 and 59.12 for a 1:50.87 aggregate while Sarah Lauridsen combined runs of 51.97 and 59.26 for a 1:51.23 total time and was 25th to complete the Saint scoring. Other finishers for the Saint women included Franci Forman in 27th with a 1:52.18 total, Kaitlin Guendelsberger, who was 32nd in 1:57.49 and Abi Copeland, wo was 39th in 2:03.10.

Warner Nicholson of Colby won the men's race with runs of 47.36 and 51.56 for a 1:38.82 total. Eric Morgan was the top Saint finisher in 27th with runs of 52.07 and 54.83 for a 1:46.90 total while Jon Wiebrecht combined runs of 53.44 and 1:03.90 for a 1:56.53 aggregate and was 34th.

David Rothman and Nicholas Gush did not finish the second run and Anthony Puccia, who skied the first run in 51.23 seconds, was disqualified on the second run.

Competition concludes with the men's and women's giant slalom on Saturday.

KREIZEL FINSIHES 16TH AT VERMONT CARNIVAL

Feb. 7: Sophomore Hannah Kreizel picked up where she left off yesterday afternoon, finishing 16th in the slalom at the Vermont Carnival this afternoon. Kreizel finished in 1:44.78. Leading the men's alpine team was junior Nicholas Gush with a 26th place finish in 1:40.95.

Also scoring for the women, freshman Sarah Lauridsen came in at 26th with a time of 1:52.83 and freshman Kaitlin Guendelsberger in 35th with a time of 2:04.50. The women's alpine team finished in seventh place with 48 points.

Scoring for the men were sophomore David Rothman, coming in at 28th at 1:44.09 and junior Stephen Patterson in 32nd at 1:46.33. Freshman Eric Morgan finished in 41st place with a time of 2:33.73. The men's alpine team finished in eighth place with 42 points. As a team, the Saints finished in eighth place in the carnival with 394.5 points.

KREIZEL FINISHES 20TH; MEN'S SECOND RUN DELAYED AT VERMONT CARNIVAL

Feb. 6: Sophomore Hannah Kreizel led the St. Lawrence women's alpine team with a 20th place finish in the giant slalom. Kreizel finished with a total time of 2:19.96. The second run of the men's giant slalom was delayed because of weather. A scoring decision will be made after the coaches and jury meeting. The men were led by a 23rd place finish by freshman Eric Morgan. Morgan finished in 1:04.46 in the first run. The women's alpine team finished in seventh with 50 points. Currently, the men are in sixth place with 56 points.

Freshman Kaitlin Guendelsberger turned in a 24th place finish with a time of 2:23.59. Rounding out the scoring for the Saints was Sarah Lauridsen. The freshman finished in 30th place with a total time of 2:28.38.

For the men, junior Nicholas Gush came in at 33rd with a time of 1:05.92 and sophomore David Rothman came in at 42nd with a time of 1:11.80. Both the men and the women will compete in the slalom tomorrow morning. Start time for the first run is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

GUENDELSBERGER FINISHES IN TOP 20, SAINTS FINISH EIGHTH

Jan. 31: In day two of the St. Lawrence Carnival at Whiteface, the men's alpine team finished in 9th place with 39 points while the women's team came in seventh place with 51 points. Overall, St. Lawrence combined for an eighth place finish with 274 points. For the second weekend in a row, Middlebury College won the carnival, with 561.5 points.

Freshman Kaitlin Guendelsberger led the women's alpine team with a 19th place finish in the slalom this afternoon. Guendelsberger finished in with a total time of 1:45.20. Coming in right behind her was teammate, sophomore, Abigail Copeland in 21st place. Copeland finished in a total time of 1:45.42. Rounding out scoring for the Saints was senior Melissa Medinger. Medinger finished in 29th place with a total time of 1:48.30. Sophomore Hannah Kreizel finished in 31st with a total time of 1:50.10 and junior Franci Forman finished in 32nd with a total time of 1:51.35.

The men's alpine team was led by freshman Anthony Puccia with a 24th place finish. Puccia finished with a total time of 1:48.62. Freshman Nicholas Gush came in at 32nd with a total time of 1:59.22 and freshman Jon Weibrecht came in at 33rd with a total time of 2:06.29 to round out the scoring. Sophomore David Rothman finished in 36th place with a total time of 2:15.72.


SAINTS FINISH NINTH AT SLU CARNIVAL

Jan. 30:In day one of the St. Lawrence Carnival at Whiteface, the men’s alpine team finished in 9th place with 39 points while the women’s team came in eighth place with 30 points. Overall, St. Lawrence combined for a ninth place finish with 69 points.

Jon Weibrecht led the team for the men with a 31st place finish with a time of 1:57.43. Anthony Puccia was right behind him in 42nd place at 1:57.66 and Eric Morgan’s time of 1:57.96 was good enough for a 44th place finish.

Nicholas Gush ended up in 45th place with a run of 1:58.04 and Dave Rothman posted a time of 2:05.58 for the 58th spot.

For the women, Hannah Kreizel finished in 1:59.21 for a 31st finish and Kaitlin Guendelsberg skied to a 54th place on the day in 2:00.88. Overall, St. Lawrence combined for a ninth place finish with 69 points.

SAINTS FINISH EIGHTH AT COLBY CARNIVAL

Jan. 24: In day two of the Colby Carnival the men's alpine team finished in ninth with 42 points in the slalom. The women finished in seventh in the slalom with 55 points.

Nicholas Gush led the Saints with a 27th place finish in a time of 1:32.90. Jon Weibrecht came in rigth behind at 1:35.91. Stephen Patterson finished in 36th place in a time of 1:51.81.

For the women, Abby Copeland led the Saints with a 21st place finish in a time of 1:34.96. Hannah Kreizel finished in 1:36.90 for 23rd and Kaitlin Guendelsberg finished right behind her at 1:36.95 for 24th.

The Saints finished the weekend in eighth place with 400 total points. The St. Lawrence Carnival takes place next weekend at Lake Placid.

SAINTS OPEN SEASON AT COLBY CARNIVAL

Jan. 23: The St. Lawrence University Alpine Ski team kicked off its season at the Colby Carnival this afternoon. The men finished in eighth in the giant slalom with 29 points and the women finished in seventh with 47 points.

Sophomore Hannah Kreizel led the women with a 25th place finish in a time of 2:14.65. Freshman AnnMarie Turner finished in 32nd with a time 2:19.80. Freshman Sarah Lauridsen came in at 37th in 2:21.84 and freshman Kaitlin Guendelsberg finished with a time of 2:22.37. Abigail Copeland finished in 40th for the Saints, coming in at 2:24.44.

Junior Stephen Patterson led the men in the giant slalom with a 28th place finish in 2:09.63. Freshman Eric Morgan finished in a close 29th with a time of 2:10.67.

The men's and women's alpine teams will hit the slopes for day two tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.and 1:00 p.m.

SAINTS TRAVEL TO LAKE PLACID FOR PRESEASON CAMP

Jan. 19: The St. Lawrence University Alpine Ski team returned from two weeks at the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center for a preseason camp. The team had access to the weight room and nutritious meals. In addition, the team had exposure to national and world class athletes.

The Nature Valley Freestyle Cup was taking place, so the Saints were sharing facilities with the US Ski team, as well as teams from Japan and Norway and the US Women's Bobsled and Luge teams. The America's Cup Bobsled & Skeleton will be taking place this week. The Saints had a unique experience, this is the first time that a college team had access to the facilities for a training camp.

SAINTS HEAD NORTH FOR PRESEASON CAMP

Nov. 21: The St. Lawrence University Alpine Ski team is headed north for preseason training camp. The Saints are headed to Mont Tremblant in Quebec for nine days of training as they prepare for the upcoming season. Coach Pier is excited about the camp and is looking forward to a good year for the Saints. The team will leave Friday, November 21 and return on Saturday, November 29.

ALPINE SKIING COACH JEFF PIER NAMED TO NCAA SKIING COMMITTEE

Aug. 14: Coach Jeff Pier has been named to the NCAA Men's and Women's Skiing Committee. Pier was appointed by the NCAA Division III Presidents Council and Management Council. His term of service will begin on September 1, 2003 and continue through September 1, 2007. Sports committees oversee the conduct of the NCAA championship in their respective sport and division(s). Playing rules may be formulated and administered by a subcommittee of a championships committee, or by a separate rules committee.
