Jeremy Mwenda ’11 says “technology, especially information and communication, is necessary if our economies are to develop.” Thanks to his experiences growing up in a developing country, Jeremy, a graduate of Miathene Secondary School in Meru, Kenya, decided to be a computer science and economics double major.

On campus, Jeremy, is extremely busy. He is a member of the African Student Union, competes with the track and field and cross country teams, and is a peer tutor for Swahili and computer science.  He also serves as a Community Assistant, which he says has been “a fulfilling, though challenging, experience working with first-year students, mentoring and helping them in their transition to college.”

Outside of student clubs, Jeremy is also a student delegate to the Alumni Executive Council, which he says has been a great experience, “I truly admire their sense of pride in St. Lawrence and their commitment toward helping St. Lawrence. I also greatly enjoy the opportunity to be a voice of the student body,” he says.

Jeremy says he didn’t know much about St. Lawrence before he came, but he does not regret his decision. “I have really enjoyed being part of this friendly community and I greatly appreciate the opportunities that St. Lawrence offers,” he says.  “Being able to interact with my professors in and out of the classroom makes the whole learning experience enjoyable.”

Jeremy is unsure what his future will hold, but says graduate school is an option. He adds that regardless of where he ends up he hopes to “in one way or another make a contribution toward the development of my country’s economy.”
