Lynn Smith Fox
Senior Adviser, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System
Lynn S. Fox joined the staff of the Federal Reserve Board in 1985, becoming Senior Adviser in 2003 when her husband, Dr. William Fox, became President of Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri. Currently she supports special projects related to institutional management, communications and strategic planning. Recent projects include guiding a study of workforce trends and their impact on the Board and overseeing development of a leadership development program for officers and senior managers. She has also been asked to initiate planning for the upcoming Federal Reserve System centennial.
Early in her career at the Board she worked in the Congressional Liaison Office, where she became Deputy Congressional Liaison in 1996. She was named Assistant to the Board in May 1998, where she served as chief adviser to the Board regarding media and public information programs. Ms. Fox was Assistant Secretary to the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) from 1998-2002 and served as Director of the Office of Board Members which includes Congressional Relations, Public Liaison and operational support programs.
In Missouri, Ms. Fox has devoted her volunteer time to downtown development. She organized a project to raise funds to refurbish a downtown theatre, opened a volunteer-run store featuring local arts and crafts, and assisted several local women in opening small businesses. She has worked with the office of the mayor and other local groups to sponsor creation of a downtown vision and plan. She and over 2000 other volunteers spent much of June 2008 in a successful sandbagging effort to protect the town’s levees as the Mississippi River rose to historic levels.
Before joining the Federal Reserve Board, Ms. Fox worked for the House Banking Committee and for Congressman John J. LaFalce (D-NY). From 1990-1992 she was Director of Corporate Relations for Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California.
A native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Ms. Fox attended Wofford College and is an honors graduate of Smith College. She earned an MBA from George Washington University. She and Bill are the parents of daughter Hallie, a student at Middlebury College.
