Academic Assessment
St. Lawrence is fast becoming a national leader in academic assessment, with
a fulltime
special assistant to the president for assessment and an assessment committee
of faculty and staff who contribute their expertise. The assessment team examines
the institution’s mission and engages in substantive conversations about
stated key
educational goals for a liberal education at St. Lawrence and for respective
disciplines
and programs. Academic assessment seeks to answer the broad question, “How
well
do our students learn what we are attempting to teach them?” and is most
successful
and useful when the strategies employed correspond to key learning goals. Assessment
also works best when it is not limited only to academic programs, but addresses
student learning in institution-wide contexts.
Institutional Research

Institutional Research, reporting to
the president
of the University. The staff maintains an aggressive and ener getic program

of
University management. Professional staff in all other divisions of the University
carry on data collection and analysis programs as well, and inter-office
information sharing is regular practice. The Institutional Research Office
maintains a public Web
site with accessible information, and internal Web-based management reports
for more
detailed information. Trustees also have access to the Trustee Dashboard,
