John Trentini’03

For John Trentini’03, ROTC leads to MD/PhD, ASAP.  When he graduated with honors and a neuroscience major, he left college with a resume as long as someone twice his age.  Among his campus commitments were membership in the groups Students Talk on Peer Sex, Saints Wrestling Club, Club Hockey, Big Brother/Sister Program, Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honorary and Karate Club. Another line on that crowded resume: Class Officer. He was the recipient of the Douglas M. Brown Senior Award from the Alumni Association, honoring his academic and extracurricular excellence. All these activities would fill any undergraduate’s PDA, but John added Army ROTC to his list of commitments, and military service is his career.

An MD/PhD student at the Uniformed Services University, John says that his acceptance into the rigorous program is due to his education at St. Lawrence.  “St. Lawrence provided myriad opportunities to carry out original and independent work,” he says. “I was able to spend summers and winters working in labs in Milwaukee, doing archeology at Fort Drum near campus and field work in El Salvador, and spending time on campus working on two independent projects that culminated in publications,” he recalls.
