Coming from Zimbabwe, Simbarashe (Simba) Pasipanodya wanted
a college “that would feel like home.” He found it at
St. Lawrence.
The senior computer
studies and economics double major from St. John’s High
School, Harare, explains, “Knowing that I would spend four
years in college thousands of kilometres away from friends and family,
it was extremely important to me that I find a school where I would
belong. SLU seemed like the sort of place--you can have a
unique identity, and not be just a face in a crowd.”
Simba
cites two “particularly exciting involvements” that symbolize his
feelings of belonging. As the manager of the women’s
hockey team,
he says “I have loved being a part of such a successful endeavor”;
the team went to the NCAA Division I Frozen Four in three of his
four years at St. Lawrence. And he says his membership in Alpha Tau Omega fraternity “was
a compelling experience that taught me the art of blending irreproachable
individual effort with team-driven work to achieve a common goal.”
As far his
academic life at St. Lawrence, Simba cites “the opportunity to spend a
semester independently researching an area of science that
I love, game theory, gathering data and drawing results, and contributing a little
bit to the world’s reservoir of knowledge.”
After
he graduates in May, Simba intends to use “the strong academic
training and interpersonal skills that St. Lawrence infused
within me to take on Corporate America!”
