Camille Partin ’06 has used the whole world as her laboratory.
Partin (Bedford, N.H., Manchester High School West) who double-majors
in geology and environmental
studies, explains, “St.
Lawrence has allowed me to travel and see the world:
I’ve studied in Iceland, China, Alaska and New Zealand. St.
Lawrence is a place where if you want something, you can go for it
and make it happen. The sky is the limit.”
Partin says she was attracted to St. Lawrence “of course for
its academics,
but also for its residential life - everyone
really seems to care about the students—as well as
the small class sizes, the Outdoor Program and a generous scholarship.
“My experiences in geology have been life-changing,” she
says. “Attending the Geological Society of America conferences
two years in a row, plus travel and independent research both
on campus and abroad, have really prepared me for graduate
study” in preparation for a career in college teaching. She
also cites the breadth that extracurricular involvement brings to her
education: she has been a member of Democracy Matters, the Environmental
Action Organization, the Geology and Nordic Ski clubs, a volunteer Orientation leader
and a student government senator. “There are a multitude
of leadership opportunities at St. Lawrence,” she says.
