Veterinarian Betsy Meinhardt ’80 understands the human/animal connection. It’s one of the most valuable things she got out of her liberal arts education at St. Lawrence.
The Bristol, VT, resident is on staff at Bristol Animal Hospital. She earned her DVM at Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine after majoring (and earning honors) in
biology at St. Lawrence. She was elected to
Phi Beta Kappa, studied on St. Lawrence’s
Kenya Program and was a member of the Riding Club.
“St. Lawrence was instrumental in preparing me for my career in veterinary medicine,” she says. “Not only through the outstanding biology and physiology courses, but also courses such as Bioethics and philosophy courses, which were strong influences in helping me to understand not just the medical aspects of the career, but the important human/animal connection as well.
I am so glad that I chose a liberal arts education; I have benefited from it not only as a veterinarian but also as a person.”
