Humanitarian Jeff Meilman ’65 uses his surgical skills to
reconstruct lives. As Executive Director and Practicing Plastic Surgeon
for the Hope for Tomorrow Foundation, Jeff leads a team of physicians
that travel all over the world performing, free of charge,
complex surgeries on afflicted children whose families cannot
otherwise afford them
Jeff attended medical school after graduation from St.
Lawrence with a degree in biology and then served with the
United States Air Force. During his military service, he was exposed
and sensitized to the plight of injured and deformed victims of war
and abuse. He began work with the Hope for Tomorrow Foundation, which
works to recruit doctors from across the United States to
help children with catastrophic injuries. Now
its executive director, Jeff has been invited to speak all over the
world and earned the personal blessing of the late Pope John Paul
II, who affectionately refers to him as “Buffalo!” for
his hometown.
At Reunion in 2002, he received the Sol Feinstone Award for Humanitarian
Service.
