Jason Dittmer ’94

Jason Dittmer ’94 majored in Spanish but has worked in fields ranging from education to film to the energy industry.  He taught high school Spanish, worked in experiential education, produced movies and now runs a company dedicated to home energy efficiency.

As a student, Jason pursued a wide range of interests as a member of the Alpine ski team, the men’s lacrosse team and the Outing Club.  He singles out his most definitive undergraduate experience as receiving a failing grade from one of his favorite professors.  That shock, Jason says, made a light bulb go on in his head.  “It was a revelation that a teacher cared more about my education than I did,” he says.  His professor’s high expectations motivated him to take his education even more seriously than he was before.

At St. Lawrence, he learned how much an individual can positively influence others.  Now, he maintains his vision for DwellTek Home Energy Solutions on that principle.

Jason owns DwellTek, located in Park City, Utah, where he lives with his wife and two children.  The company aims to make living more efficient and affordable, whether that means small-scale changes like updating light bulbs and air conditioning, or large-scale changes like switching to off-grid energy by installing a solar power system.

“Renewable energy should be accessible,” he says.  “People want to be more sustainable but it can be hard for them to get there.” He intends to change that: “DwellTek is all about bridging the gap to make that efficiency accessible.”
