Flouride and Faure: Professor of Chemistry Paul Connett has many areas of expertise.

Professor Paul Connett teaches environmental chemistry, he leads an international awareness program against the dangers of fluoridation of public water, and he hosts a classical music show on North Country Public Radio. His students rave about his energy.

Connett has received numerous awards and citations for his efforts as a world-traveling  environmental activist. A graduate of Cambridge University, Connett holds a Ph.D. from Dartmouth College. He joined the faculty at St. Lawrence in 1983. Connett's opposition to incineration as a method of managing solid waste, based on his chemical analysis of the byproducts of the process, has taken him to 49 states, five Canadian provinces and 44 other countries. During this time he has given over 1,700 public presentations, written many articles on dioxin and waste management and co-produced several videotapes on those topics, with Professor Emeritus of Fine Arts Roger Bailey.

His current area of concern is the common U.S. practice of fluoridation of public water supplies, a practice to which he is opposed, also as an outgrowth of his research. He has been consulted on this topic by the National Research Council (link to Netnews Sept. 2, 2003), and is a founder of the Fluoride Action Network.

Not enough? A regular host for public radio in Vermont and since joining the St. Lawrence University faculty, on the University’s own North Country Public Radio, Connett hosts a monthly show of classical music.
