Thomas W. Budd
Professor and Chair of Biology
“We’re doing a very good job in terms of our academic
mission: ‘to provide an inspiring and demanding undergraduate
education in the liberal arts to students selected for their seriousness
of purpose and intellectual promise.’”
T.
Budd, as he’s known throughout campus and by generations
of Laurentians (he’s taught at St. Lawrence for 34 years), has
reason to be “in the know” and very enthusiastic. He’s
project manager for the construction of the new Johnson
Hall of Science, a project that will take two years to complete
and require Budd’s eye for detail every minute of every day.
And he loves it.
“I’m extremely excited about the
project,” says Budd. “We’re working with some very
talented professionals. It will be a big boost to the science departments,
especially our newer programs such as neuroscience and biochemistry.”
Budd is especially proud of the project’s commitment to sustainable
design. The building will apply for LEED certification, testimony
to the rigorous attention to environmentalism.
“I think St. Lawrence has a very bright future,” says
Budd.
