Kristin Berretta ‘10 is SLU’s own chemistry whiz. The Pointe-Claire, Quebec, native and graduate of Queen of Angels Academy in Montreal says, “I have always been interested in science and always curious about how everything in my environment functions.”
Kristin was chosen last year for an
SLU Fellowship;
she did specific research with chemistry professor Samantha Glazier on “chemical models of anti-cancer pharmaceuticals based on ruthenium compounds with organic side chains,” she explains.
“I am honored to be an SLU Fellow,” Kristin says. “It was an unbelievable experience for me. I have since changed my major from
biology to
chemistry, and plan on continuing my research into my senior year.”
Kristin is minoring in biology and is studying on a pre-med track. “Science has always been a deep passion in my life and always will be,” she says.
She has volunteered at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital Emergency Room, where she says she “learned so much about medicine in hands-on situations.”
On campus, Kristin is involved in the
American Chemical Society. She was previously president, and continues to be an active member. She has also been on the
women’s golf team since her first year, and has been captain for her second year, and is on the
Student Athletic Advisory Committee as the golf representative.
