Announcements
Asian Studies Seminar: The Asian Studies Initiative invites all continuing faculty to participate in a year-long faculty seminar entitled “Recreating Japan: Arts and Images of Identity,” and a trip to Japan in summer 2005. Applications, consisting of a CV and a letter of interest indicating areas for exploration and proposed course development, are due by May 20 to Mark MacWilliams, mmacwilliams@stlawu.edu, or Yoko Chiba, ychiba@stlawu.edu, each of whom can provide more information.

New Spiritual Advisors: Chaplain Buckley has announced the naming of several new spiritual advisors on campus. Jewish advisors are Michael Greenwald, Jody Horwitz, Steve Horwitz, Joan Larsen and Liz Regosin; Muslim advisor is Farid Haq. They join current advisors Denice Szafran, Earth-based traditions; Beverly Ewart, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship; and Sr. Bethany Fitzgerald and Fr. Timothy Canaan, Roman Catholic tradition. Each advisor has office hours in the Multifaith Student Office, Student Center 326; their schedules and contact information are posted on the door. “Our hope is to have Buddhist and Hindu advisors in the fall as well,” according to Chaplain Buckley.

Faculty Workshop: A workshop designed for faculty who are committed to or thinking about directing a study abroad program, offering an off-campus summer course, adding an off-campus travel component to a semester course, conducting research projects off campus with two or more students, or guiding a trip is scheduled for Thursday, May 13, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Center For Teaching and Learning. Faculty who seek financial support for the travel components that are part of regular courses have an application deadline early next fall, but should talk to Prof. Alden now or over the summer if they wish to apply.
