ANNOUNCEMENTS
Piskor Lecture Set: The annual Piskor
Lecture will be presented by Judith DeGroat, history, on Monday, April 15,
2002, at 7:30 p.m. in Herring Cole. Her topic is "Headscarves and Khaki:
Gender Perceptions of Franco-Maghrebians and National Identity in Contemporary
France."
Taylor Award: The John P. "Jack" Taylor Distinguished Career Service Award is given periodically to recognize distinguished service to the University by an administrator who has worked at St. Lawrence for a minimum of 12 years and who sustains the high standards of performance exemplified by Jack Taylor's long and distinguished service as director of dining services. Nominations should be sent to President Sullivan by May 1, 2002.

Intramural Softball Sign-ups: The deadline for entering teams in the spring intramural softball tournament is 6 p.m., Monday, April 1. ISEP Meeting: An International Student Exchange
Program (ISEP) information meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 3 at
4:30 p.m. in Carnegie 112. The application deadline for participating in a
spring 2003 program is May 20, 2002.
Wellness Luncheons: Free luncheons this semester provide an opportunity to discuss how to eat healthier, exercise healthier, learn to deal with stress and have healthy relationships. Reservations are not needed. The remaining luncheons take place in the Formal Lounge, 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. on April 9 and 23. For information: 5391.
Meditation Options: Fifteen-minute meditation sessions are scheduled for Tuesday evenings, 9-9:15 p.m., and Thursday mornings, 7:45-8 a.m., in Gunnison Chapel (chapel garden, weather permitting). NCPR Seeks Intern: North Country Public Radio
is seeking an intern for June 2002-May 2003, to work with North Country teens

Retirees Luncheons: University retirees gather
on the second Tuesday of each month during the academic year in the Noble
Center Formal Lounge for lunch. Remaining dates for the spring semester are
April 9 and May 14. At the April 9 meeting, Thomas Pynchon will speak on "The
Pynchon Family's Six-Month Trip to Africa and Europe." Reservations must

Cadernos da Tradução, a journal from the Federal University
of Santa Catarina in Brazil that specializes in literary translation, has
published book reviews written by Justin Bland '03, North Falmouth,
MA (Umberto Eco's Experiences In Translation); Tia Rabine '02,
Glens Falls, NY (Changing The Terms: Translation In The Post-Colonial Era);
and Sylvia
Mello '04, Danvers, MA (Who Translates? Translator Subjectivities Beyond
Reason, by Douglas Robinson). The students wrote the reviews as an assignment
in Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures Steven White's fall course,
Stylistics & Translation.
