Safe Walks: A reminder that Safe Walks are available “24/7” on campus, and Friday and Saturday nights, 11 p.m.-2:30 a.m., from downtown. Call 229-5554 for assistance.

Mathematics Chair Created: The Martha E. and Gregg E. Peterson Endowed Chair in Mathematics has been established at St. Lawrence University by the Petersons, of Georgetown, Texas. Through a generous gift of $1.5 million, they established the chair to honor and support an outstanding faculty member in mathematics. Professor of Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics Duncan J. Melville has been named to the position. Martha Root Peterson is a 1962 graduate of St. Lawrence, with a degree in mathematics.

Safety Committee Meeting: Meetings of the Safety Committee are open to all members of the campus community. The first few minutes of each meeting are reserved for anyone to address the committee regarding any safety issues or concerns. Next meeting is Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m. in Student Center 333.

Logo Design Contest: Organizers of the second annual Canton-St. Lawrence University Race Weekend, April 30, 2005, announce a contest to help in the design of race t-shirts and posters. Entries must be received by Monday, January 31, 2005. For information: Bill Burns, 5391 or wburns@stlawu.edu.

Retirees Luncheons: University retirees gather for lunch once a month in the Eben Holden Conference Room. Remaining date for the fall semester is Dec. 15, at noon; Thomas Coakley, vice president of administrative operations, and Sharon Pinkerton, associate director of human resources, will present an update on the University’s health insurance plan. Reservations must be made by noon the preceding day with Mickey Williams, 386-8781, or Wanda Renick, 386-3474.
