Tenure and promotion considerations for 2003-2004: The following faculty members are being considered for tenure and promotion to associate professor by the Professional Standards Committee: Ilia Casanova-Marengo, modern languages and literatures; Jeffery Greathouse, chemistry; Robert Cowser, English; and Karl Schonberg, government. Letters from faculty and staff familiar with the work of the faculty members under consideration are vital in the review process. Especially helpful are letters that address the quality of their teaching, scholarship and service. For a complete description of the criteria for appointment to tenure and promotion in rank, please consult Section III E (pages 59-61) of the Faculty Handbook, also available at the Academic Affairs Web site. Letters should be sent to Dean Grant H. Cornwell, Vilas 103, by Monday, October 13, 2003. Curricula vitae for the candidates are available at the ODY reserve desk and in the Dean's office. Letters are used solely for the tenure and promotion process; confidentiality will be protected to the extent possible under the law.

Shenandoah Shakespeare Coming: The Shenandoah Shakespeare company will perform The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Henry IV: Part One and Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest on campus October 20-26. Tickets for all performances may be purchased for $3, at the E.J. Noble University Center and Brewer Bookstore, beginning on Monday, October 6, for University students, faculty and staff, and beginning Wednesday, October 9, for the general public. Asian Studies Initiative Award Opportunities: The Asian Studies Initiative offers several research opportunities for both students and faculty. Make-a-Difference Days Sign-Ups: Those interested in volunteering to work on community service projects on Make-a-Difference Days, October 24 and 25, may sign up for two-hour blocks of time at the E.J. T-Shirt Donations Sought: The Women's Resource Center has begun collecting t-shirts for the Clothesline Project, whose purpose is to raise awareness of violence against women, by placing a donation box in E.J. Wellness Initiative Funds: The Wellness Initiative sponsors two alcohol-free event funds, the St. Lawrence University Alcohol-Free Event Fund and the Campus-Community Alcohol-Free Event Fund. These funds can be accessed through a "mini-grant" process and are available to any St. Lawrence student, student group, faculty member or staff member. Grants will be awarded in amounts ranging up to $300 per event. Applications should be submitted at least 14 days prior to the proposed event. For application information: wburns@stlawu.edu or 5391.

Lunch Bunch: Laurentian Women's Association Lunch Bunch meets on the first Wednesday of each month in the E.J. Noble University Center Formal Lounge.
