Samuel Johnson Bibliography Prizes: The 21st annual Samuel Johnson Bibliography Prizes are being sponsored by the Friends of the Owen D. Young and Launders Libraries. The two prizes of $150 each are awarded for the best undergraduate bibliographies in support of (1) a research paper, and (2) an honors thesis submitted for a University course during the 2004-2005 academic year. To enter, submit one copy of the complete research paper to Bart Harloe, ODY Library, by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2005. For information: Theresa O’Reilly, 5454.

Josephine Mentley St. Lawrence and North Country Studies Award: The Friends of the Owen D. Young and Launders Libraries invite students to enter the competition for the Josephine G. Mentley St. Lawrence and North Country Studies Awards. Papers or projects completed in the 2004-2005 academic year, regardless of discipline, which focus on topics or issues relating to St. Lawrence history or to the North Country are eligible. A certificate and an award of $150 will be presented for the winning projects in the categories of honors thesis and classroom research paper. To enter the competition, submit one copy of the complete project, including any supporting media or documentation, to Theresa O’Reilly, ODY Library by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2005. Taylor Award: The John P. “Jack” Taylor Distinguished Career Service Award is given periodically to recognize distinguished service to the University by an administrator who has worked at St. Lawrence for a minimum of 12 years and who sustains the high standards of performance exemplified by Jack Taylor’s long and distinguished service as director of dining services. Its purpose is to recognize devotion to students and workmanship of high quality in a well-respected member of the campus community. Nominations should be sent to President Sullivan by May 10, 2005, and should consist of a letter and any supporting evidence which speaks to the nominee’s fulfillment of the award’s criteria. Learn to Row Program: An instructional rowing program will be conducted at the University Boathouse, Waddington, this summer. Two sessions are planned, with a daily starting time of 5:45 p.m.: every Monday and Wednesday, May 30-June 29, and every Tuesday and Thursday, May 31-June 30. Lunch Bunch: Laurentian Women's Association Lunch Bunch meets one Wednesday per month at noon in the Eben Holden Conference Room. Remaining date for the spring semester is May 4. Kerry Banazek ’06, of Camillus, NY, has won first prize in the 2005 James Ligon Price III Memorial Contest in Poetry, for her poem titled “Jealousy and Other Worldly Things.” The prize brings Banazek $600 and a mention in the Academy of American Poets National Poetry Prize results.

The following students have received travel and research grants for the summer and fall semester from the Center for International and Intercultural Studies:
• Stephen Cotton ’06 (Granby, CT) will participate in the Russia study tour while in Denmark.
• Raluca Dragusanu ’06 (Bacau, Romania) will research the textile industry in Romania.
• Neema Mawiyoo ’06 (Nairobi, Kenya) will explore the poetry and jazz scene in London while she studies on the semester program there.
• Yordan Minev ’07 (Gorna Dryahovitza, Bulgaria) will participate in the Russia study tour while in Denmark.
• Eddie Molina ’07 (New York, New York) will study flamenco during his year in Spain.
• Kanti Shrestha ’07 (Kathmandu, Nepal) will visit Paris, France, her birthplace and home as a small child.
