ISEP Meeting: An International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) information meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8, in Carnegie 112 at 4:30 p.m.. Application deadline for the spring 2004 semester is May 20, 2003.

Softball Sign-Ups: The deadline for signing up for intramural softball is Tuesday, April 1, at 6 p.m. Registration forms are available on the Intramurals Web site.

Volleyball Fund-Raiser: A volleyball tournament on Sunday, April 13, will raise money for Renewal House, which provides safety to abused women and children. Lunch Bunch: The Laurentian Women's Association Lunch Bunch meets on the first Wednesday of each month in the E.J. Noble University Center Formal Lounge. Achievements
Joshua Taylor '03, of Otego, N.Y., presented the results of research he conducted for an honors thesis in geology at the joint meeting of the Geological Society of America Northeastern Section and the Atlantic Geoscience Society in Halifax, Nova Scotia, March 27-29. "Origin and Subsequent Modification of K-Feldspar Megacysts with the Gray's School Body of the Hermon Gneiss, Adirondack Lowlands, New York," presented with Associate Professor of Geology John Bursnall, examines the possibility of magmatic crystallization, metasomatism and metamorphic recrystallization in the rock. Taylor was a 2002 Baker University Fellow.

Twelve St. Lawrence University students were among those from 136 colleges and universities around the world participating in the 49th Harvard National Model United Nations in February. The St. Lawrence team represented Turkey, which presented an interesting challenge in view of current world politics. Participants were Jaralie Murphy '05, Oneida, NY; Molly Ryan '05, Champlain, NY; Shawn Mayo-Pike '06, Delmar, NY; Ivaylo Kolev '05, Sophia, Bulgaria; Dadojan Azimov '04, Dushanbe, Tajikistan; Matthew Huising '06, Cadyville, NY; Danielle Sanzone '06, Troy, NY; Clementine Vitek '05, Swarthmore, PA; Elizabeth Chadwick '05, Ogdensburg, NY; Jessica Nyce '06, Glyndon, MD; Joshua Lynch '05, Waddington, NY; and Vanessa de Bruyn '05, North Bonneville, WA.

Jolaine M. Roycewicz '03, of Hudson Falls, NY, is the recipient of a research grant awarded by Sigma Xi, a scientific research society. Roycewicz is a biology major, with a minor in chemistry. She has been awarded a grant-in-aid to support the research project entitled "Does habitat fragmentation alter genetic structure in small mammal populations?" It will be supervised by Fippinger Assistant Professor of Biology Erika Barthelmess, with whom Roycewicz also worked on a 2002 summer research project through a Merck-AAAS Fellowship.

In The News: March
Assistant Professor of Global Studies John Collins was quoted in a March 25 story in the Detroit Free Press, on the use of military terminology by the news media in times of war. He also was quoted in a March 22 story in New York Newsday, about whether or not it is appropriate for news media to use patriotic symbols in their mastheads and other identifiers and in a March 22 story in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, on the vocabulary being used to describe military actions in Iraq.

Assistant Professor of Sociology Danielle Egan and Visiting Instructor of Sociology Ross Glover were both interviewed on the Radio Australia program "Late Night Live with Phillip Abrams" on March 24; they discussed the chapters they authored for the book Collateral Language: A User's Guide to America's New War.

Professor of Psychology Alan Searleman was quoted in a March 24 story in the Allentown, PA, Morning Call, on how to deal with the ever-growing number of passwords and PINs that people must memorize.

"The Astonishing World of Tomorrow," an exhibition of the work of political cartoonist Tom Tomorrow in the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery, was featured in the "Endpaper" section of The Chronicle of Higher Education's March 21 issue.
