Announcements
Message from President Sullivan: Late on March 18, 2003, President
Sullivan addressed the following to the St. Lawrence community: "This
afternoon, Associate Professor of English Margaret Kent Bass received a discriminatory
harassment note and reported it right away to Dean Cornwell. I have directed
our Security staff to work closely and aggressively with the Canton Police
to investigate the identity of the person or persons responsible.
"I stress, in the strongest possible terms, that St. Lawrence University
will not tolerate such reprehensible materials. We will support Professor
Bass in any action she feels is appropriate, and I will direct that disciplinary
proceedings begin immediately if the person or persons responsible are found
to be connected to St. Lawrence University.
"If anyone has information that will help this investigation, I urge
you to contact Security at x5555 or the Canton police at 386-4561."
As this issue of The Scarlet Letter went to press, the investigation
was in progress.
