Retirees and Volunteering

SLU retirees definitely do not stay home counting the snowflakes. This page provides information on some of the ways faculty and staff retirees are involved in area organizations. Contact the individual or the organization for information on how you can participate. If you would like share the details of what you are doing yourself, click here to send us a message.

John Ross

John is very actively involved in SOAR, the group of volunteers who teach courses to retirees at SUNY-Potsdam and elsewhere in Potsdam and Canton. Click here to see what he writes. For information on SOAR, go to the link at the left.

Lynn Ekfelt

People who need help are the focus of Lynn´s volunteer activities. She drives seniors to medical appointments for the Office of the Aging, she reads the local news for the InTouch network´s services for the blind at NCPR, and she helps blind adults with whatevere assistance they need. For the details and for contact information, click here..

Bob Matteson

You may have run into Bob at the library. He chairs the FODYLL, which supports purchases for the library, schedules speakers, publishes a bulletin, and provides awards for students. Bob says they are always looking for new Friends. He also invites retired faculty to consider joining the Board of the FODYLL. Click here for more information.

Carol Linn

She´s not retired faculty, but it´s OK to include Carol here, right? Carol works with the United Methodist Church´s free will dinners (over 25,000 served so far!) and is in charge of meals for Habitat workers, which she organizes in cooperation with area restaurants. To see more, click here.

Mickey Williams

At least one of Mickey's several volunteer activities is likely to interest you. Contact her for more information on opportunities available at any of the places where she is involved: the St. Lawrence County Historical Association, the Canton Free Library, and activities at Canton First Presbyterian Church, which includes visiting or helping older members living alone. Mickey also helps sometimes at TAUNY and NCPR  fundraisers.
