Residential Coordinator
Theme Communties

The Office of Residence Life at St. Lawrence University invites applications for a Residential Coordinator (RC) to join our Student Life team. The Residence Life program at SLU includes a residential component to one of the nation’s oldest living-learning programs for first-year students where faculty and Student Life efforts are integrated in meaningful ways. The University also offers upper-class students a variety of housing options, including living-learning communities, theme cottages, townhouses, and traditional residence halls.  As a residential campus, approximately 98% of our students live in University housing.

The Residential Coordinator for Theme Communities is responsible for providing responsive leadership in the daily administration and community development of the University’s upper-class student theme housing communities.  This includes advising our system of 15 theme cottages, as well as overseeing the Steiner Senior Townhouses and four small upper-class residence halls located in the theme cottage section of campus.  This particular residential complex consists of approximately 525 upper-class students, with the Residential Coordinator supervising a paraprofessional staff of seven Community Assistants (CA) and two Townhouse Managers (TM).

This position reports directly to the Associate Director of Residence Life & Housing Operations and works on a team with three other full-time Residential Coordinators to collaborate on the following: supervision and mentoring of the CA staff, administration of spring housing selection, development of CA selection and training programs, adjudication of low-level student conduct cases, coordination of housing maintenance with Facilities Operations staff, and working closely with the student advisory boards for special interest housing. The Residential Coordinator also has evening and weekend on-call responsibilities approximately one week per month and will work with Community Assistants and Student Life staff when crisis situations occur. This position may also advise class councils and/or student organizations, contribute to wellness education, assist with updating the Residence Life website, and serve on various University committees.

Requirements include a Master's degree in Student Development, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Education or a related field. A Bachelor's degree with prior residential supervisory experience may also be considered. Successful candidates will demonstrate initiative, personal integrity, excellent interpersonal communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a good sense of humor. Theoretical understandings of student development, appreciation for multicultural education, and familiarity to campus culture within a small, residential liberal arts environment are also preferred.

The Residential Coordinator position is a full-time, 11 month, live-in position. Remuneration includes $28,000 – $30,000, commensurate with experience and education, a furnished campus apartment, board when classes are in session, and a competitive benefits package.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and list of three professional references with contact information to: Christopher Marquart, Assistant Dean of Student Life and Director of Residence Life & Housing, Office of Residence Life, St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY 13617 or e-mail to: cmarquart@stlawu.edu (preferred)
