Development/Planned Giving: Administrative Secretary I

St. Lawrence University seeks to fill a full time Administrative Secretary I position in the Development Office/Planned Giving. Under the supervision of the Director of Planned Giving (DPG), the Administrative Secretary provides administrative and clerical support for the activities and programs of the Office of Planned Giving and the G. Atwood Manley Society. The person in this position must interact professionally with the public, successfully multi-task, understand concepts and problem-solve at a high level and be fluent with technology. A willingness to take appropriate initiative and the ability to work independently and often with little direct supervision are necessary. The person must enjoy a fast-paced, customer-oriented atmosphere with multiple and evolving short and long-term priorities. Excellent written and oral communication skills are critical, and since a significant aspect of the position is contact with colleagues and external constituencies (including donors and volunteers), superior interpersonal skills and grammar are required.  The planned giving office assists alumni, parents and friends who include the University in their long-range financial and estate plans. Correspondence containing confidential gift and tax information is routinely prepared for donors, attorneys and financial advisors. It is imperative that this information be organized and delivered in a timely fashion without error. Complete confidentially is required in dealing with prospects, volunteers, attorneys and financial advisors. Organization and attention to detail are necessary in both internal and external communications. This position is part of the development office and the individual must also work well as a member of the larger team.

Qualifications: High school diploma (or equivalent) required. Associate or bachelor degree preferred. In addition, minimum of four years successful secretarial experience in a customer-oriented, technology-driven environment required. Equivalent combination of post-secondary education and related work experience of at least three years will be considered. Proficient with Outlook, Word, and Excel. Must become proficient with PGCalc, GiftWrap, Access and The Raiser’s Edge. Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
