Assistant Director
St. Lawrence University seeks a committed, creative, engaged educator and invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Student Activities and Leadership. The Assistant Director will work with a professional team to develop and implement a comprehensive residential curriculum and co-curricular program that is academically and socially stimulating.
Primary job responsibilities include:
- Participating in the revision and implementation of the residential curriculum learning model in a campus life organizational model.
- Working closely with students and staff relative to student leadership and development.
- Supervision, evaluation, training, and development of Greek Organization members and leaders.
- Ensuring all fraternity and sorority students enjoy a living and learning environment that is physically and emotionally safe, secure, and supportive of the educational process, and holds individuals and groups responsible for their behavior.
- Assessing and maintaining risk management practices.
- Work with Ad Hoc students, clubs, and organizations to plan and manage home-grown events.
- Involvement in planning and implementation of major campus programming and traditions, including New and Transfer Student Orientation, Family Weekend, Concerts, Moving-Up Day, Winter Weekend, Senior Week, etc.
- Supervision of Sullivan Student Center Information Desk Staff student employees.
- Collaborate with Residence Life in proper opening and closing activities.
Successful candidates will:
- Demonstrate a theoretical foundation in the principles and practices of self-authorship.
- Possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and the willingness to work and communicate in a highly collaborative environment with a sense of humor.
- Demonstrate a mature understanding of the value of Student Activities at a small liberal arts institution and the motivations of students who create and participate in them.
- Have the ability to sustain communication with diverse groups, anticipate problems, reconcile conflicts, and maintain a strong philosophical base for student activities.
- Demonstrate the ability to work within systems, innovate, and keep functional records.
- Possess a mindfulness of social justice and inclusivity.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred with an emphasis in behavioral or social sciences, student personnel, higher education, or related field; 1-3 years experience in student activities, leadership training, and/or union programming, Green Dot, multicultural affairs, preferred.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a live-on-campus position.
