Performance and Communication Arts
Technical Director/Production Manager for University Theatre
St. Lawrence University invites applications for 10-month (August 2013 - June 2014) staff position (renewable annually) in the Performance and Communication Arts department.
Position Responsibilities:
- Working as part of a team with the Music Department Production Manager to support the University’s cultural events programming
- Helping to maintain the Arts Center equipment and inventory (including shop equipment, lighting, sound, special effects and rigging)
- Improving and updating facilities as funding permits or safety standards require
- Training and supervising crews (load-in, running and strike) for both arts department events and special events performed in the University Arts Center performance spaces
- Serving as liaison/technical contact person for incoming special events which may include the analysis of all technical riders for incoming events before contracts are signed, answering technical questions relating to potential events and fulfilling all contracted items
Departmental responsibilities:
- A half-time teaching load of three technical theatre courses (with labs and supervised production components) during the academic year.
- Serve as lighting designer, technical director, and supervisor of set construction for departmental faculty-directed theatre productions (1 per semester) and departmental dance concerts (1 per semester)
Qualifications:
Experience with university theatres and/or professional technical directing experience required. College-level teaching or supervisory experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree required.
