Assistant Professor of Photography and Video, Tenure Track
The Department of Art & Art History seeks a photographer/film artist to teach all levels of undergraduate courses in film-based darkroom photography, digital photography, and video. Other courses, related to the artist’s area of competency and research, are welcome. Position begins August 2013.
We are particularly looking for an artist who will bring a critical and creative approach to the teaching of photography, video, and digital media/technology, and their relationships to contemporary art and culture. Ideally, this artist will be versed in contemporary theories relating to visual imaging and should encourage trans- and/or post-media methods of creative production in their teaching of these topics. Other areas of personal creative investigation and production may take any shape or form. This person will teach courses in the Department of Art & Art History and the Film and Representation Studies Program. The individual in this position will be encouraged eventually to teach in the university’s interdisciplinary First Year Program.
Photography and video courses are taught in two prominent studio spaces. The department of Art & Art History hosts a recently renovated photography studio with a darkroom, developing room, and teaching space. Digital photography and video courses are taught in the Newell Center for Arts Technology, St. Lawrence University’s state-of-the-art, interdisciplinary arts technology facility.

Requirements: MFA in photography and/or video with teaching experience in areas listed above and evidence of continuing artistic accomplishment.
