Coordinator of Academic Development
St. Lawrence University seeks a Coordinator of Academic Development. Working in the Office of Academic Advising Programs and reporting to its Associate Dean, the Coordinator is responsible for devising plans of academic recovery for students on academic probation and monitoring the progress of such plans. At the same time, the Coordinator identifies, solicits, and works with students with high ambition, devising plans for their increased success.
Description:
This is a full-time twelve-month staff position. The Coordinator will:
- Serve as a member of the Academic Advising Team, which includes the offices of Academic Development, Academic Support, Special Needs, Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), CSTEP, and McNair Scholars Program.
- Provide services for students in academic difficulty, including support for early-warning and academic-recovery systems.
- Research and participate in initiatives connected to academic success, diversity, and student retention.
- Organize programming on academic skills for students mandated to summer school.
- Support students enrolled in the HEOP July summer program.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of three years of related work experience required; higher education or their equivalent preferred.
- One-on-one experience with undergraduate students or a similar population, preferably within the contexts of academic recovery and/or communications skills development.
- Experience or familiarity with Opportunity Programs.
- Experience working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds and with diverse academic needs.
- Experience with Special Needs populations.
Education:
- Master’s Degree in Education, English, Reading, or Writing preferred. A Master’s Degree in a related field will be considered.
