Research done by Steve Peraza '06 has been published
in two languages. Steve, a graduate of Manhattan Comprehensive Night
and Day School and a New York resident, has taken advantage of a
number of opportunities to do research at St. Lawrence, resulting
in published work in both English and Spanish. In the summer of 2003, Steve
was a Writing Fellow in the English department, working
on gender issues with Professors Natalia Singer and Peter Bailey.
He then was named a Sesquicentennial Fellow in 2004, researching
one of the University's best-known graduates, Jeffrey Campbell '33.
Excerpts of his paper appear in the winter 2006 issue of St. Lawrence
magazine.
Research that he conducted for a Spanish class has also
been published, by the Modern Languages and Literatures department;
he explored the poetry of Nicholas Guillén.
Steve, who has also written regularly for the student newspaper,
is conducting research this year in both of his majors, history and sociology.
He's also a mentor for Reiff College, one of the colleges in the First-Year
Program. In addition, he gave a presentation at the 2006
Student Leadership Conference, with Associate Dean Rance
Davis, on "Diversity, Dialogue and Decision."
Some of his campus activities include the Thelomathesian Society (student government) and the Association for Campus Entertainment.
Steve also participates in the Collegiate Science and Technology
Entry Program and studied in the University's program in Spain.
