By the time Ben Meade '06, of Amherst, N.H., graduates, he will
have conducted research in at least four countries and presented
some of the results at a national conference.
Environmental studies/geology major Ben Meade '06, Amherst,
N.H., is a member of the University's marathon-training group, which
might explain how he's managed to accomplish so much. At the 2005
annual meeting of the Geological Society of America, held in Salt
Lake City, he presented the paper "Protection, Development and
Education in Chinese Geoparks," with Assistant Professor of
Geology Stephen Robinson and Camille Partin '06, Bedford,
N.H. The three conducted research in China for three
weeks during the summer of 2005, evaluating a new system at four
National Geological Parks.
In addition, following a semester of study in the University's program
in Australia,
Meade was awarded a
travel enrichment and independent research grant from the Center
for International
and Intercultural Studies, looking into "Gold Mining in New
Zealand: A Study of the Quest for This Valuable Mineral." Meade
is also a tour guide in admissions and a member of the men's cross
country team, Nordic ski club and Geology Club.
