Research Profiles
Stephen Ciesla '07

At first glance, it might surprise some to learn that mathematics/computer science major Stephen Ciesla '07, of Conklin, NY, has published a creative short story. On further examination, it all adds up.

Ciesla, a graduate of Susquehanna Valley High School, participated in a first-year seminar on science fiction writing, with Professor of Physics Daniel Koon. His short story, "The Gemini Project," was published in the first volume of works from the seminar, "The Android Times."

Ciesla has practice in other styles of writing as well, as a 2006 University Fellow, for which he researched the topic "Graphics Processing Unit Memory Management," with Professor of Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics Brian Ladd. A month before graduation, he'll present (with Benjamin Case '07) "Beowulf Cluster for Bioinformatics" at the 14th Hudson River Undergraduate Mathematics Conference.

Ciesla plans to graduate with a minor in physics, and is a member of the Math Club, the Society of Physics Students and the Electronic Entertainment Club on campus.
