Summerterm Information
At St. Lawrence University we offer:
Three master
of education programs--general studies, educational administration, counseling
and human development.
Two certificate
of advanced standing programs--counseling and educational administration.
One post-baccalaureate
certification program leading to New York State initial teaching certification.
In the general studies program you will:
Find a route
to a New York State permanent teaching certificate if you have provisional
certification.
Find a route
to New York State initial/professional teaching certification if you are
already holding initial certification
Plan a large
part of your program in accordance with your own interests and needs.
Work toward
a master's degree that may be appropriate in fields other than teaching.
Some new options for graduate work in general studies are:
For students working toward New York professional certification after
January 2004, the new New York State Education Department regulations
require "at least 12 semester hours in graduate study in the subject
of the certificate or that links pedagogy and content in the subject of
the certificate or a related subject."
St. Lawrence University offers two course classifications to help students
to meet this requirement: Education 566, Special Topic: Pedagogical Content
Studies, and (Department) 566, Subject Matter Studies. See the course
listings in both Summerterm graduate sessions and take advantage of these

In the counseling and human development program, you will:
Learn to work
with clients in schools, colleges and universities, agencies, clinics
and related counseling services.
Find a route
to New York State provisional certificate in guidance.
Find a route
to complete all academic requirements for licensure as a mental health
counselor.
In educational leadership you will:
Find a route
to New York State initial certification in school building leadership,
school district leadership, or school district business leadership upon
completion of the course requirements and an internship.

Registration
Registration for graduate sessions is held on the first day of classes
for each graduate summer session, unless completed previously. For more
information regarding summer graduate study at St. Lawrence, contact the

Credits
All graduate courses carry three graduate credit hours unless otherwise
indicated in the descriptions.
Course Cancellations
Any regular course with fewer than five St. Lawrence University students
registered at the end of the second day of classes likely will not be
continued; if that happens, you can register for another course.

Please note there are non-refundable deposits and fees associated with
special programs.
Auditing a Summerterm Course
An (A) with a course description means that course is part of the Community
Auditing Program. For details, see Auditing

Graduate Students Payment Terms
Students are billed mid month for courses in which they have registered during the last 30 days. Payment to the University is due upon receipt of a bill. Tuition and fee payments may be made in cash or check at the Students Financial Services Office, Student Center. Payment may also be made by check through our lockbox service by making checks payable to St. Lawrence University and mailing them to TMS Billing Services, P.O. Box 842748, Boston, MA 02284-2748. Include the top portion of our bill with your payment. Payment may be made on-line by credit card or electronic check will be assessed a handling fee.
*Housing is
available for graduate students. Please contact the office of residential
learning communities at 315-229-5250 for more information or to make arrangements
for a room and board.
