I am a junior at St. Lawrence University majoring in psychology and music, with a minor in statistics. I came to SLU knowing that I wanted to major in psychology, and I am continually impressed with the opportunities that the department has to offer.
During the fall of my junior year I interned at Rose Hill Youth Rehabilitation Center in Massena, New York through my participation in Community Psychology with Dr. Ogley-Oliver. At Rose Hill I was able to counsel and interact with patients in a clinical setting, as well as collaborate in the development of an art therapy program and treatment outcome measure. In the spring of my junior year I joined Psi Chi and attended the EPA Convention with the department in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Additionally, I have had the pleasure of working for the department’s observational play-group for multiple semesters under Dr. Wallace. I am currently working on my Senior Honors Project with Dr. Thacher, which examines the relationship between substance use and sleep manipulation in college students.
In addition to my involvement with the psychology department, I am a member of several clubs and ensembles on campus. I have participated in the String Orchestra and Laurentian Singers since freshman year. I am a member of the Charles Ives honor society for music majors. I am also a member of, and currently serve as coordinator for, The Annex theme house for the performing arts. Additionally, I serve as primary student assistant for the university’s Music Library.
I intend to complete my coursework in December of 2012 and apply to graduate school in the fall. My goal is to obtain a PhD in clinical psychology and practice, specializing in adolescence. All of my classes, relationships, and activities within the psychology department have provided me with invaluable knowledge that is certain to benefit my life and career for years to come.
