Music has been called an art, because it engages the creative impulse, and a science, because it involves analytical thinking. If that is true, it’s an ideal liberal arts major. At St. Lawrence, you can study the history of music and its role in society, compose music, and perform music in a variety of ensembles across the genres. Some courses incorporate a travel component, and private lessons are available. Music majors have gone into education, music video production, and sales and promotional careers related to music; some, such as Grace Potter, have become practitioners.
