Prof. Pepiton and Four Students Attending a Theatre Festival
PCA Visiting Assistant Professor Charlie Pepiton will lead a workshop at the Region I Kennedy Center / American College Theatre Festival in Hyannis, MA (January 29 – February 2). The workshop titled "Blocking Matters: Connecting Image & Action" seeks to establish a richer directorial method for staging a play. "The problem with blocking in most productions is that all too often it has no direct connection to the rest of the director's concept. In the end, it's just crowd control," Pepiton says. The workshop utilizes theories of design, physical metaphors, sketching, and physical improvisation to guide directors' staging in an effort to reconnect image and action and to discover a more purposeful method of mapping the actors' movements throughout the stage space.
Additionally, PCA students Rebecca Mason, Peter "Gilly" Caulo, Sara Boardman, and Rich Richardson will compete in the regional Irene Ryan acting competition at the festival. PCA Visiting Assistant Professor Dr. Matt Saltzberg will also attend.
