PROF. KITTLER AT THE ANNUAL ICA CONFERENCE IN PHOENIX
Dr. Juraj Kittler attended the annual International Communication Association conference in Phoenix, AZ (May 24-28, 2012) where he presented two papers summarizing his most recent research. The first paper, titled "The City as the Ultimate Time-Binding Medium," focuses on communicative aspects of the built urban environment. It is a comprehensive study that maps the development of different facets of urban communication research in a historical perspective.
The second presentation was a study co-authored with Italian media scholar Dr. Gabriele Balbi (University of Lugano/Newcastle University). The paper is titled "Dialoguing with Socrates or Disseminating Like Jesus?" and it is an attempt to re-read the last 2,500 years of Western communication history in order to get a better grasp of the current cultural and technological changes attributed to the internet and digital communication (focusing on the development of the so called 'one-to-one' and 'one-to-many' communication techniques and technologies).
